I can't remember how now, but I know you can trace which unit the mog came from prior to purchase. Look for the larger units, like a BASB (Base Administrative Support Battalion) (not infantry or artillery!) The rear echelon units are bigger, more mogs, more mechanics, more beurocrats ensuring they are kept up to standard. nothing against the grunts and gunners, but geez they drive 'em hard!

dunno what basb you been to mate......

I waited more that 2 years for the first of the Army mogs to come up - still waiting. It would be great if they went for $15-20K - I'll buy a spare one.
If you are talking about the guys in Perth then I wonder why he gave those prices - he puts similar model mogs on his site for $90K. I tried to buy one though him - the cheapest one was $70K and had over 10,000hrs on the motor.

I think they will be sold off in large batches to some third world country - that seems to be the deal with most other countries. Either way, spares are bound to become cheaper - with a couple of hundred or a thousand or so older mogs around the country there will soon be an independent parts supplier set up here - about time as well. I just got some prices for the main hub bearings - a full set costs around $2000 per corner from the local dealers - and they have to ship them in from Europe which they say will take 10-15 days - I can get them from the UK for less than $400 per corner including the shipping in less than a week.

    2nd hand 1450's and 1700's go for around $30,000

He also told me that with the Army "overland" project, the existing fleet of mogs will be up for auction within the next two years, he expects them to go for aroun $15,000 - $20,000 each...

Another interesting point, there was a recent parts contract for the Army worth $5,000,000...

I was in the CMF (reserves to you whipper snappers) when the unimogs first came out to replace the old Studebakers. Although much more comfortable, we always took a Studebaker along to pull the Mercs out of bogs. The difference; Studebakers' were six wheel drive.

dont forget you need to add the premiums on top..

you may also find that the very cheap ones were wrecks..

Yeah - I imagined the $5 or 6K ones were "inoperable" or how ever they term it.
