    It's happened again

Trust me for not being vigilant, especially when there are plenty around. BL**DY redback spiders. This is the second time I have been bitten. This time there was one up the leg of my overalls and it bit half the way between the knee and ankle on the side muscle. Talk about being painful. It happened yesterday while I was robbing my bees so I thought it was just a sting through my bee suit. But as the pain has continued I knew it wasn't a sting as they usually itch for about 30 minutes. This bite settles down when not walking but stand and try to put weigh on the leg and the pain radiates up and down. Surprisingly having got motivated the pain eases a little. G.P. says that I could have some antivenin to help ease pain bur I will just struggle through. Pain can last up to 3 weeks or so.

Perhaps you are lucky it didn't bite you half way between the knee and the waist!! Hope you get better soon.

    Yep, know the feeling.

Luckily I don't seem to susceptible to the venom...

Got bitten on the back of my right hand once, working on the boat..
Pulled my hand out from behind a bulkhead to see a pretty black and red spider sitting on my hand - Just as I went to swipe it off "Bite"...

Went red and I felt a bit off for a day or 3...

Also been bitten on the ankle, walking into workshop in shorts and a web was across the entrance - Similar reaction...

Had multiple White Tip bites, never get more than a red 10 cent sized welt.

2 redback bites here. I on top of hand from workshop, and the other top of foot. Little bugger was in my shoe. Worst spider bite was a funnel web, 13 years ago, went through 3 layers of clothing and got me on the chest just above the heart. 24 hours in hospital and then 8 days in bed at home paralised on the left side. Was able to get up after 8 days then another 3 weeks very sore and weak. Took almost 6 months to get back to where I felt good. Since then I have lost all strength in left shoulder and arm, and have constant muscular and soft tissue pain on left rib cage.

I lived in a small town and the Doctor said he would not give antivenin as I didn't have the spider with me. He acknowledged that it was a funnel web bite from his experience along with my very clear description. I have been around spiders for a long time and can recognize the more common ones. Never want that experience again.

Strangely, in my past line of work I was under floors, in ceilings, crawling around in many dark and web infested areas and I never even saw a spider.
