wearing a seat belt or relying upon any other safety device will not prevent you the driver, having a crash, its a crash....rarely an accident.....you crash because of the way you drive.....theres nothing accidental about that and until you start relying on yourself to prevent crashes and not safety devices that try to prevent injury as result of your crash then nothing's going to change. You are going to keep on killing yourselves and/or your loved ones. the alternative answer is what engineers are starting to do and that is take away the vehicle control from the driver. I love that. I believe only rigorously certified drivers should have a license just like airplane pilots.

    Texting...

If Texting is such a great contributor to the road toll then why have we not seen an increase in the road toll consistent with the introduction of SMS capable phones, increasing as the popularity of texting rises.

Not saying it is a good idea or safe but enforcing the don't touch your phone rule seems similar to the speed camera enforcement.
Easy to enforce - Check, touch your phone and you are gone
Easy for Politicians to be seen to be "getting tough on motorists" - Check
    Good revenue raiser - Check.

Scientifically proven to reduce the road toll - Someone go buy me a researcher.

Here's hoping they run the same thing here.

Personally, I reckon they should be equipping cars with a device that renders phones useless whilst the car is running full stop. Maybe then drivers will pay more attention to the road, as well as passengers paying attention to what's going on around them too.

In my job, I'm on the road all the time. the amount of people I see using a mobile phone and texting while driving is unbelievable. Actually it is a sackable offence in my job to use a mobile phone while driving a company vehicle. Company policy is, vehicle parked, ignition off, maxi-brake on and driver outside the vehicle to use a phone.

Great idea, but as long as dumbarses like this are in the audience, there's no hope

This is so fake and so lame. Pop corn bags are obviously US style not used in Hong Kong. English-only texts do not exist in Hong Kong. And by the way, most people in Hong Kong don't drive. They ride public transit. And streets are too busy and crowded to even have distracted driving. Especially for young movie goers, they would have no clues what VW was allegedly trying to communicate!
