Thread: 1988 Landrover round up Shepparton

One of the local club members brought in a couple of articles regarding the Goulburn Valley FWD clubs 4wd round up in conjunction with the land rover round up.
A couple of interesting points an Australian and world record was set for the most landies in one place at 169 vehicles and anothe record for most 4wds in one place at 594 vehicles.
Most original LR went to Eric Morris with a series 1
Best presented LR was won by Chris Alban with a Series III
Most unusual vehicle was won by Tony Jordan with a Gamma Goat.

Did anyone from this forum attend this event? and if so what was the highlight of the event if you can remember?

I attended. Did not own a 4WD myself at that stage but was a former S2A ute owner.

Remember one of the speakers was local Federal NP Bruce Lloyd who brought his farm Jap 4WD.

Vehicles were in 3 sections. Japcraps, Land Rovers and Everything Else. The first were most numerous but, of course largely clones of similar things so the latter two were far more interesting.
I was doing a farm contracting job at the time for local collector /restorer of old vehicles Col Anderson and helped him take four 4WD's there. I drove his 4WD Inter ute pulling a tandem trailer with unregistered LHD WW2 Willys Jeep on it. Apparently was difficult at the time to register many Left Hand Drive vehicles in Victoria, even with the red CH classic historical plates.
Col also took along two restored WW2 military trucks. A cab over British Bedford and a Ford with Marmon Harrington 4WD that had apparently been installed on the assembly line.

I remember the unusual Gama Goat but have forgotten most details. Think it was powered by a 3-53 General Motors two stroke diesel.
