steamies
Good suggestion, Stephenf10, I have heard it is well worth the trip to the Murray to see the paddleboats. I served 21 years in the R.A.N. as an engine room articifer [ steam ] , our nickname [ one that could be repeated ] was "steamies " , stokers were called "dusties " [ among other things ] Daring class destroyers had 2x Twin Furnace Controlled Superheat Boilers , 640 P.S.I. @ 850'f generating 225,000 lb/hr over 21,850 sq. ft. heating surface, D.D.G'S had 4 x Foster Wheeler d type boilers , 1275 p.s.i. @ 950'f , 137,000 lb/hr output, , 7285 sq.ft. heating surface-- these were the two types I served on. I believe steam has been phased out now, progress, they call it, an Era has passed.......... wish I could work out a way to fit one of those in my disco...... Bob10 :lol2::twobeers:
