    hello all,
i have a 56 series 1, i've been told it was a part of the development of the snowy mountain scheme back in the 50s. i'm wondering if any one knows or can point me in the direction of someone who knows about about this? i want to restore it back to its original set up and look. pics, email or phone number would be great.

Send me the chassis number and I'll take a look!

(Garrycol - I never noticed before, but the rear of the vehicle in the top image background RHS margin, looks to be an S1 station wagon. Notice the position of the alpine window, not present on the 107s)

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Diana, it appears from the rego. plate, (difficult to read clearly) that both those photos are of the same S1.

I was thinking that too, the photographers were attached to Public Relations and later the vehicles used were branded "A" for administration, this one however was a survey vehicle which can be determined by the "S" on the LHS mudguard front. Perhaps the photographer went for a ride with a survey team.

Other codes were "M" for (I assume) mining and "FC" for the Forestry Commission vehicles.

Did you notice the electric demister elements on the screen. You don't often see those on restored vehicles these days. It would be a nice touch for an ex-SMHEA vehicle.

    Not sure John.

Your colour image shows a vehicle with a tropical roof. The vehicle on the alpine road is sans-tropical roof and the station wagon in the other image has larger/different window to yours.

Nothing would stop the tropical roof being added later - even by yourself if that were the case.

That is a station wagon - my understanding was that the organisation initially had some Tickfords Stationwagons and as they became long in the tooth they were replaced with 86 Stationwagons - not absolutely certain though.

PS Still have not found anyone else with an 88 Wagon. Someone should start a register of Series 1s in Aust.

    I thought you'd be interested.

Pretty sure I did come across a few SMHEA short SW, they sure had a lot of 107's.

    As for the Ticfords:

I did notice the demister elements on the screen, they would have been pretty necessary in that climate.
