Very sorry to hear - and see the pics. Glad nobody was hurt.
Surely we could all chip in a few bits (or offer them at cost) so they could get the car back on the road and continue their trip???
I can offer them a back door - but that is probably one part they don't need???
I also have plenty of axle/brake parts if they need any of that?
Looks like the rear propshaft snapped in the accident?
i have s3 fenders that are a little damaged if that would be any good to them
That's terrible news and I'm glad they are OK. As Bundalene suggested, Shaws is a good one to try but in general anyone that is backloading empty containers/trucks would also be good to approach. Northline transport helped me in Alice springs a few years back. The other thing to look at is getting it to Mt Isa first and then sending it on from there.
As for parts the biggest LR wreckers in Australia is Triumph Rover Spares in SA and I would also try British Off Road in QLD. Also shoot a PM to Stuuu he may have contacts down in Boroloola area.
If they get it down this way I'll lay on spanners to help out.
Ive got some bits and pieces that might be useful.
IMHO thats one vehicle that should not be allowed to die.
I was gobsmacked when I read the blog entry of how it happened. Like all others - no serious injuries or worse is at least some good news out of it.
City Wreckers in Darwin have a fleet of larger tow trucks as I would say other wreckers would so that is one way of getting it to Darwin. Then on Shaw's as they do the most runs to/from Sydney.
dmdigital and I would be probably the closest geographically but are still too far away to help out but as Dave has already offered his services I am sure there are more who would help out.
Pass on our best wishes to them please.
did the engine continue to run after the roll over, its hard to find a tdi here in darwin, probably better to send it south.let me know if i can help,The accident possibly didn't help the other couples holiday plans either. Are they on here.
Unfortunately both also know how to charge. I am sure between the many members on AULRO we could come up with the parts for much less - and/or find where to get them from smaller wreckers. e.g. Salisbury wreckers in brisbane used to have a few landies. FWD in Brisbane has a whole swag of 2nd hand spares out the back - but prices depend on who you ask.
wow! thats a sad end to a great car :(
Guys,
Thanks for the comments and offers of help... I have forwarded the various bits of info on to them to help make arrangements, etc...
I have spoken to Anne & Mike and they have decided to come home. They have been on the road for quite a while now, so were already starting to feel a little tired and this has just knocked the wind out of their sails.
The 110 will be shipped back to the UK, where it will be re-built.
However, they will still be around for a little while yet as they have family to visit in Sydney and I'm trying to convince them that they should get one of those camper-van re-location deals and make a mini-roadtrip of it. :D
I've also told them they need to pop in here & say "Hi"... ;)
