There is also an silver / lead / zinc mine to the south of Borroloola, with the ship loader at Bing Bong to the north of town. I dare say either operation would have semis supplying goods with empty trailers going back, probably into Queensland, always looking for a back load.

The pub probably gets a semi load of beer a week

I am unsure who to approach about such a request, but someone in town may be able to assist.

I may also have a few Defender bits to assist if you decide to go in the local repairs direction.

Good luck with the recovery, Erich.

its not the end of the car.

I dont know if they're interested but.

it would be to their advantage for freighting the vehicle if it had some repair work done to it, just enough to make sure all the lashing points were easily accesable and that it didnt have any "OH+S" issues for loading.

If it could be gotten to runnable and at least steerable thats also a big help for loading.

Terrible news. Glad to hear both are OK. We crossed paths with a Camel landy with foreign plates in the north of WA a couple of months ago. Was that them by any chance?

I can offer them a back door - but that is probably one part they don't need???
I also have plenty of axle/brake parts if they need any of that?

Looks like the rear propshaft snapped in the accident?
    Great suggestion Ben,

I could help out with a firewall and most panels forward of it. I have the following panels:

    - Firewall (has some rust in it, but will get them going again)
    - L+R front quarterpanels (chequerplated)
    - Bonnet (chequerplated) also has some venting holes cut of it

I may also be able to help out other bits and bobs as well as a couple of 110 front doors. Both have rust in the bottoms, but once again, might be enough to get them going again. All are in Perth.

    Cheers

    Bojan

EDITS - just saw the pics again, and I might alkso have a few underbonnet bits they may be missing - if they make a list of what they need, I'll see what I can offer.

That's right - it was the road between Kununurra and El Questro wasn't it?

I've seen it too, on another forum with a pic but I am unable to place it. It was only in the last week or so.

It's the rims that caught my attention.

    Dr.C Guest

Thanks for all your kind comments and offers of help

The last couple of weeks we've been sorting out the vehicle to get it ready to be shipped back to the UK. The chassis needs replacing as it folded up on the O/S and both front rails are bent, not to mention all the body damage you can see in the photographs, so the cost and time involved to get it repaired in Australia would unfortunately be too much. However, never fear, we'll get the vehicle back to its former glory and are already in the process of arranging things back in the UK for the repairs.

We have the vehicle back on its wheels, pushable and steerable, and our shipping agent in Sydney has said that we can use their yard to load the Land Rover into the container ourselves, saving on the costs normally associated with the process. The engine mounts have detached from the chassis and the engine is pushed back and upwards, in addition the radiator and intercooler are crushed, so we're not in a position to get it mobile under its own steam.

We've been in contact with City Wreckers to move the vehicle to Shaw's Darwin depot, who have quoted us a good price to transport it down to Sydney next week (thanks for the information Bundalene and Stuuu). We'll then fly to Sydney and meet the Land Rover so that we can load it. We were on our way down to Sydney, via Cape York and the east coast, to visit my brother and family when the accident happened, although those plans obviously changed somewhat. The couple in the Discovery 3 were remarkably philosophical about the accident and the fact that their vehicle and trailer have both been written off by their insurance company (they had agreed value policies, so are already thinking about a Defender 130 as a possible replacement). The main thing was that nobody was hurt, which is testament to the strength of Land Rovers and the fact that neither vehicle was travelling that fast.

Australia is such a great country to travel by 4WD, with a freedom to explore which we just don't have in the UK, and we are obviously disappointed to have to cut our trip short. However, we'd already been planning to come back in the future to see the parts we hadn't had time to visit, so we'll just have to make it a longer trip next time. We've also got some amazing memories of the places we've seen and especially the people we've met.

    Thanks again,

    Mike & Anne

    Hi Mike and Anne,

Please PM us if you would like a hand packing your vehicle into the container, or assistance in moving the vehicle from the Shaws depot to the shipping agent.

    Erich.
