Thread: Back to Work

Oh well ............ all good things must come to an end.

I have been off work since March this year - needed a break after the last job working for an engineering contractor based in Perth, and particularly the last 6 months of that on a new Rio Tinto iron ore mine up near Karratha.

Have been enjoying my time off, catching up on most of SWMBO's list of jobs to do on and around the house, plus a few more, a couple of mods to the Disco and a couple of short camping trips. At least got a couple of decent feeds of yabbies.

Was looking forward to having probably the rest of this year off and possibly chasing up a job in the new year (the weather's just starting to get right for more camping) - but somebody found out that I wasn't working and chased me up. So I'm off back down to Perth on Monday, staying in a motel and working in an office in Nedlands for a couple of weeks - then up to a new iron ore mine near Nullagine. Fly in & out of Newman and drive to site initially (about 2 hours) until our new airstrip is completed, then fly directly to site. Will be on a 2:1 roster initially, then they're talking about 9:5 (days) once the place is up and running and things have settled down. The mine is owned by one of the new "juniors" on the block - so I think it will be a pleasant change working on a site that is not subject to some of the crap that you have to put up with on the BHP and Rio sites that I've been on in the past ......... can only hope.

So I guess I'll be back to driving bloody Toyotas again - but there's some interesting scenery around Nullagine, so I'll have to see what the opportunities are and try to get some decent photos. It's not far from where I used to be at Yandi a few years back - but I've lost all my good photos from when I was there when my old laptop died. Now I've learnt to use portable hard drives.

So hope we can get internet access up there in the camp ............ I'll be lost if I can't check in here at least a couple of times a week.

Will do Craig - though initially I think we'll be bussing between Newman and site, so there might not be a lot of opportunity. But no doubt there will be opportunities as things settle.

I know Newman fairly well from my time at Yandi, and still have a couple of friends living there, so will try to get in to catch up with people when I can.
