    New QLD licences

Has anyone in Qld hear about the licences comming your way latter in the year (if not already) being introduced.

These are the ones with smart chips in them to protect against theft and fraud.

What do you all think? happy?

Do the QLD licences still look like a dodgy laminated bit of paper?

When my wife still had a QLD licence, we went to a pub in Perth...

Door Gorilla: Can I see some ID please
Wife: Here you go (QLD driver's licence)
DG: Sorry I cannot accept this - I need to see your passport (must have though she was from OS)
W: That is a QLD drivcer's licence and is a valid form of ID anywhere in AU
DG: Long hard look at both sides before finally letting her in...

    Load of BS.
There has been a "project team" working on this since 1998, I kid you not.
Now we are to get these, at double the price of current ones

we currently have to pay 'not much really' for teh privillege of having a licence that shows our endorsesments (postiive and negative)

now THEY want/require US to have some they THEY choose, and WE have to pay more for it.

why doesnt the exisitng system work? because they tell us it doesnt, but which part of it doesnt?

    not really happy about

Did the QLD guvvinmint put it on because the other states have it, or have you actually worked out what to do with it?

The reason I asked is this:

I have been doing an assignment on privacy with Electronic health records and the new Qld card came up.

This is what was thrown around a few years ago as the smart card for health, some may remember it. This license for QLD is the same system but only storing licensing information. It sounded dodgy to me as the same information that is on the card is on the plastic license. But I know very little about it except what I have read on the website and I watched the video.
This is were I found the info:
New cards (Department of Transport and Main Roads)

Seriously? The (old) QLD licence is cheaper than WA, but only by a small amount. My wife renewed hers for 5 years in QLD, then swapped it for a WA licences (swaps are free ).

If it is really double the price, I might have to "move" to WA every 5 years, renew my licence, then "move" back

    EDIT, found this:
The price of a new five-year licence will initially rise from $73.30 to $96.05, before escalating again to $152.50 in 2014, an overall increase of 108 per cent.
    A 5-year licence is $116 in WA. $34 saving doesn't buy much...

Don't think so. They had a photo, but they looked/look like dodgy home laminate jobs. No way you can call this "fancy"

Sounds to me like a good sales person here who did not allow a failure of the system to set them back. Have picked themselves up and set out again even managing to sell it to the same customer who has previously been identified as a qualified target through having the persistence to go through a different door. Knowing perhaps that large corporates rarely know what the person beside them is doing. Happens here all the time with the same companies selling the same products that did not work last time to different government departments one after the other.
