    Dog in recovery.

    One of our girls, Lakota, has had an operation to correct problems with her cruciate ligament. Involved re-sectioning the bone to fix up alignments, plates and screws, etc. All very cool.

    Anyway she currently has a shaved arse (well, hip really) and her leg is all bandaged up.



    She can't carry any weight on the leg yet... the whole recovery period is around 12 weeks and to avoid her re-damaging the leg before it's totally healed she needs to be confined for most of that time.

    Poor dog. Poor us !

    At the moment when we take her out for a number one or two, we hold a towel under her belly in case she slips. All very dignified. Not.



    And for those who noticed my sexy "socks with sandles" fashion - it's because one of my own feet is heaviy strapped at the moment !

    I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but be prepared for the other cruciate ligament to go as well. When my nephews dog Harley did his he was told by the vet at The University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney that if one goes there is a good chance the other will to, Harley lasted 3 months before the second one went.

    Unfortunately true , but can depend on whether the original injury was traumatic or degenerative in origin. So how did your dog do the knee Vlad?

    Good on you mate, vet bills can be expensive, we recently spent $700 for one of our pooches to have a hystorectomy. ( I think thats how its spelt).
