For Heaven's sake, talk me out of buying a D1

I've been offered a '97 3.9 V8 Auto Disco 1 at a good price. The engine has slipped liners so it needs replacing.

It happens that I have a spare 4.6 short motor (out of my P38A) sitting in the garage......

The D1 has leather seats, no ABS or air bags (both good for an off-roader), the roof lining needs replacement. It's been fitted with LPG (missing the tank), has good tyres on steel rims. It has 3 months rego. No rust in the gutters nor around the alpine windows.

Elisabeth says I can but asks what am I going to do with it. I can't tell her as I don't need it. I suppose I could make it my 4WDing/camping vehicle but I was going to set the P38A up for camping. There are more accessories available for a D1 than a P38A.

Please talk me out of it.

Hmmm. Good point - I'd be buying it knowing it was faulty! What a change!

Yes, it's a terrible dilemma. I've been saving the 4.6 to go into a County but a D1 is a far more practical comfortable vehicle than a County (I have owned one).

The 4.6 was a replacement I had in my P38A until I had the original engine fitted with tophat liners and much more done to it.

I don't know if the EFI from a 3.9 will run OK with a 4.6 litre engine.

    Sorry Ronald.
    NO.
Put the time effort and coin into the P38a.
The D1 will never match it for comfort, the P38a will do everything the D1 will do and more.

Stick with the P38A, the most sexual Landrover ever produced IMHO!

    Cheers Ian

P.S. Go and buy the Disco, you know you want it, Ron.

P.P.S. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure
