Let the bloody computer fly it!

Bugger that we are approaching dangerous times on the name of saving dough
I think that swimming will be the safe option in the future
The CEO of Ryanair Air would like to take out the second pilot and use a computer or one of the fly attendants to save some money.
Just wonder how long will take to Tiger air lines here in Oz to implement the idea

    The Article is HERE

ryan air always come out with ridiculous suggestions for what they are going to do to save money, eg once said they would take the toilets out of all their planes so they can put more seats in.

Qantas now have an automated GPS approach into Queenstown that involves several sharp turns and one complete (horizontal) loop, putting the aircraft at the threshold where the pilot takes over. The pilots reckon they prefer doing it in cloud because otherwise it scares the poop out them flying so close to the rocks with hands off!

The computer can fly the plane better than the pilots in most instances. It's when something goes wrong that you need two head in there. And then you really need them.

having watched a few episodes of air crash investigation i reckon you need at least two of them in there.

As mentioned above, all good and well having one until the **** hits the fan.

The way I read the article it basically says downgrade the second pilot into cabin crew, then get them up the front when required. I say this, because if you could train cabin crew to be pilots, then they would go and work as pilots somewhere else! I can't see any pilots taking up an offer like that.

It is clearly the ravings of someone chasing media coverage for free.

There are laws about the number of pilots aircraft types require for a reason. CEOs of companies should stick with what they do and leave the important stuff to the people trained to do it.

    Agreed.

If it wasn't the case I would have wasted in excess of 150k when I could have become a hostie.
