Looks Factory to me Ron, I cant understand why they would weld across a top rail like that. It creates a weak spot and was bound to crack, you will find "Decals" on many trucks saying "Do not weld/drill top or bottom flanges).
I worked on trucks for years and if we had to lengthen or shorten a chassis and had to weld top and bottom rails we had to (by law, RTA) run the top and bottom welds diagonally across the top/bottom to get the longest weld possible. Which stops the stresses imparted when a short straight weld is used across the top or bottom rails, Regards Frank.

No doubt it was "just" fine when the original body was on, but a bit extra finished it off. Anyone could see how that big camper thing on the back would have levered the chassis. I wonder what the rental company is doing with the rest of them. I'm going to keep an eye out for similar utes. I know there's one in town with a big box on the back - but I just can't bring myself to go up and tell him the chassis will probably break.

Just print off one of the pictures & leave it under his wiper one day .

$50 says they will weld a strip on the top of the rail moving the weak spot a few inches forward. Until the next one snaps in half. Then they will be auctioned off, dual cab and camper separately.

Personally I can't see why nothing is done about this type of thing,unfortunately it'll take a road train driving over an overloaded van killing the people or a bicky dipper running through a crossing running down some kids before the law reacts,and then they'll blame the truck or vehicle manufacturer. cross bow, bow, knife, something belt fed, some thing that launches HE (preferably also belt fed), a pistol, a chainsaw...

sure 2 of the same weapon reduces the logistics on the ammo but wheres the fun in that.

a holden document for the RA rodeo that was online-showed areas that welding could be done when fabricating a body.

-basically within a few mm of the radiusof the edges and join welds and a few other spots.
I chose to make a frame using the pads and building the body onto that.you could see the legs of these pads moving and wonder how long they last.

Ive been involved with chasis repairs for years and these are getting so light duty.every service spent crawling around looking for rust stain.

this weel a hilux had a minor prang and bent the chasis at the front.no other damage.several panelshops have passed on the chasis swap due to time and space required.so this may become a stat writeoff stopping the chasis number from being useable.
