I have never been to a meeting, but have heard all about it, so Chris, I understand where you are coming from.

This however, IMO, does not mean that it is not worth joining.
I have met many great people through going on trips, there is no reason to go to meetings.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I've been to a number of meetings over the years, and can definitely understand if someone cops a bad one first up it would likely be their last.
I've also been to some really good ones. Great speakers, trip videos and catching up with people that I've met on trips but wouldn't see week-week as they live over the other side of town.
The December meeting is usually kept short and sweet as being the last for the year there is food afterwards

Like you Dave, I've met many great people through club trips - including some of my closest friends.

As a newbie (I joined not long after I bought my first 4WD - a D1), the driver training from people who knew landies was great. Thankfully I got to do it the weekend prior to my first Aulro trip to the Otways or I may not have survived

My general advice to anyone that is looking at joining the club is - do it! Do the driver training, go on a few trips, meet some people and then decide for yourself if its worthwhile.
My only caveat to that is if you're the personality type that knows everything already, has to be in control and can't bear to have someone else arranging something as they always do it wrong - don't bother. Clubs don't suit everyone......

I had the pleasure of growing up with a few of the founding members which my dad was one so i do understand what it is about.
Yes back in the series 1 days it was all fun and games of what i can remember
All ill say is over the years i`ve tried a few different clubs and the club seen is not for me (politics)
If it rocks your boat so be it it is not for me .

We have owned a number of "Special" vehicles over the years, and invariably join a Club relative to that vehicle to learn more about that particular brand, and also to socialize with other like minded enthusiasts.
Which is what we did when we purchased Gracie, our first LandRover.
So yes, we are members of the LROCV, we have been to a few meetings, and we have been to a few events, the best one being for Series Landies at Lismore Vic,...what a ripper event it was.
But the Club puts out a very professional magazine every month, "Review", which enables one to keep in touch with what's happening, future events etc.
We've found the members that we've met to be friendly, & sympathetic to newbies like us,...some members having owned Landies for over 50 yrs.
I would, without hesitation, recommend the LROCV.

I'm no longer a member because I have my club reg with another club now, and the meetings were as described but the members I've met while out and about are great people. I think Dave is right - there's no real need to attend the meetings if that's not your cup of tea.

I was a member from 2000-2008, met some good people and made some good friends and did a few interesting trips.
Then the political infighting began and the trips dropped off to the point that this forum had more trips being ran, i stopped going to meetings and then my membership ran out and i couldnt justify the cost anymore.
I would only re-join if i needed club reg for landy otherwise i get more from this forum.
