    I am invisible!

On Sunday, being a nice day, I decided to ride rather than drive the Rangie to a Lou and Ian's brunch at Thirlemere.

There were quite a few cyclists (motor and pushie) out and about.

The first indication that I was nearly invisible was that of all the riders to whom I nodded (and there were a lot), only the two dirt bike riders and the two sports bike riders saw me and acknowledged. The HD riders obviously didn't see me. In fact, they looked steadfastly forward, not moving thir heads a fraction. I guess they didn't see me. The Cloak of Invisibility may have descended over me.

Then, to confirm my invisible state, as I approached a two pushies riding abreast in the opposite direction and with a string of cars behind them, the car immediately behind decided it was a good time to overtake them. Naturally there was absolutely nothing in sight behind me so it was imperative that the cage driver overtake before I passed, not after.

If I hadn't been looking at the pushies, I probably wouldn't have seen the car begin the overtake manouevre and thus veer out of the way. Fortunately, he was only halfway into my lane when I went past.

    Gaahhhhh!

Harley riders only have eyes for other Harley riders. Dare I say that club is almost exclusive as the BMW riders.

If I was out there (Being a common Kawasaki Rider) I would have given a nod . The nod is definetly one of the bonds that holds that community together.

My theory is that unless you have ridden a bike for a while you don't really realise how relaxed your head and shoulder checks have become. You start checking for bikes in the blindspots, not just looking for a gap.

Allways got to ride like everyone on the road is out to kill you. No point getting into an argument over right and wrong when you are the one in hospital.

Looks like my Defender was invisible to a few other Defenders over the last two weeks.

    Unsurprisingly most wore Qld plates.....

Ron, pushie riders are like your Harley/other bike experience too.

When I used to live the other side of Wallacia I rode the pushie a lot, but back then I was riding a MTB.

MTB's are beneath most roadies to even acknowledge, even though I was riding as fast and as far as they were. (amd i even fitted slicks for the road)

When I was visiting the area and riding the roadie lo and behold most gave the nod.

    Go figure.

....and if you think you are invisible on a motor bike, try riding the pushie, you are invisible and are hated by the cages all at the same time

Friendliest riders I ever found were riding through Holland. Almost without exception you'd get a wave back, even from a few Harley guys. The unwritten rule seemed to be - don't wave to scooter riders though. No idea why.

I agree with RisingSun's "No point getting into an argument over right and wrong when you are the one in hospital" completely. They weigh 2 tonnes or more. You weigh 200 or 300 Kgs. You are the one who's going to hurt the most if you make contact. Treat everyone like they idiots and then you're not surprised when they do one of "those" manoeuvres.....

I stopped riding motor cycles regularly more than thirty years ago as I had come to the opinion that every time I went out someone tried to kill me.

I would like to say I feel your pain Ron, but I can't. It's hard to be invisible when your a "fat ***** driving a little gay car".

Perhaps it's time that I should don a scarf to hide my Adam's apple, perm my golden locks and make everyone call me Frankie Doyle, or has that been copyrighted already?

Did I call your car "gay"? Hmm, maybe I did.

Did I say you had a fat behind? I don't think so. I said have you noticed big blokes drive small cars.

I remember many years ago looking at this sports car ahead with the blonde passenger's hair streaming in the wind. Being a bit partial to blondes, I rode a bit harder to catch up and have a perve.

As I pulled alongside, I looked across and, man, she was a dog!

I mean it. It was some kind wolfhound or something similar.

My last bike was a GPZ1100, respect was shown to everyone though, dirt bike, street bike, and of course, we always had the usual thing of "steer clear of HD's" in close quarters,,
Filling up at the servo one day, two HD's rocked up, scruffiest, meanest looking guys I have ever seen I reckon,, but their rides,,, woahh,, very nice,,
Their checking me out as I fill up, starting to feel a bit on the nervous side,, ,, and to my suprise, one says,, "nice ride mate",, very well spoken too, (was wondering where the ventriliquist was at first)
Two baristers from Sydney on their way home,, nice guys, we had a coffee and yarned about riding etc,, lost their card unfortunately,, given to me "if I should ever need help",,
I rode with them for 20 mins before I turned off for my place,, awesome,, the bikes were so loud,, so cool,,
Fav movie,, probably Wild Hogs,, and thats because it shows that not all people should be tarred with the same brush,, my lesson learnt almost 20 years ago,,,
