Track conditions can change by the hour there.

Not wrong. I used to live up at Licola, I have seen the Macalister come up almost in front of my eyes, even when it's not actually been raining at Licola. Seen it rise nearly a metre in a couple of hours... All the small tributories do the same thing...

About time the rivers and streams have finally got some decent amounts of water. Will make for some more interesting crossings. Last few years they have have been mostly dry or near dry crossings. There will be some hungry campers by the end of five days waiting for the water to drop.

Yes, and I've been camping up there at this time of year and been snowed in. We had to spend an extra night, as we were only in 2w drives, but we were well prepared for the cold at least. That was a fews years back now up at Macalister Springs car park...

Thanks for your very timely post!!!

I was going into the wonnangatta valley this weekend on the presumption the rivers would have dropped enough. I had been keeping an eye on parks vic website but clearly and dissappointingly it is just not updated enough...

I'll be going in (via myrtleford - easiest access) on Saturday so will make a decision then. Will give the local ranger a buzz.

If no good I'll go find somewhere to camp that doesn't require a crossing as the camping weekend is non-negotiable no more free weekends.

Another point to be considered if the advice of the shopkeeper in Dargo is accurate is that even after the water goes down, some of the crossings can be so badly washed out that they are impassable.

A couple of months ago, that is what he told me as I was looking for somewhere to spend the night on my way home from Vic to NSW, so I just went up the valley to Eagle Vale. Interesting drive, nice spot.

    wow!

Why you would attempt that I will never know.... work is not that important to get back to.

Which side are toyota prado snorkells suppose to be on? i thought driver side.... which would mean they tried without a snorkell (not that it would of made much of a difference)
