Considering Kosciusko is just over 2200mtrs I guess I got my height a little out. I blame my gps and my complete lack of knowing stuff
Also from memory the highest drivable road in Aust is 1780mtrs and that's the track up to Mt Pinnibar, unless you work for NPWS and then Rawson Pass is, the track up to Mt Kosciuszko
    Cheers Baz.

Well if you did make a lefty off the bridge a 1/3 of the way across you would certainly be Off-Road, (for a while anyway), Regards Frank.

I have driven my Tdi to some of the highest parts of Oz and my turbo squeeched all the way,it's the thin air that causes them to do it. Pat

Yes I would Frank! I have a snorkel that would finally be put to use too.

Considering that the height(s) my suspected turbo issue occured at was more along the lines of 1000mtrs (thanks blackbuttdisco, gps was set to feet not mtrs as you suggested ), I wonder then if this height would have any effect at all? If not, the only constant would then be that each time it happened I was in heavy cloud/fog conditions and had been driving for awhile.
I'll arm myself with a recorder and wait...

Thanks Pat, now I'm getting somewhere. Do you know why it does this (apart from the thin air that is) and do you know if it is a fault with the turbo and therefore something to be concerned about? Did you travel with other turbo'ed vehicles and did it happen to them?
    Cheers.

Exactly what roads are you driving on when it happens? Might give some of an idea as to how high exactly you were at the time. Then get someone else with a puma to drive the road with you and compare the difference. Assuming the other puma doesnt make the noise, film that, then film yours and take it to the dealer. Pretty decent proof that yours has an issue.
