The F-111 is the John Farnham of the skies. I'm sure they'll be keeping a serviceable one stashed away to thrill the kiddies periodically.
I'm sure truck bombs in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel didn't figure in our threat matrix in the 1980s.
Threats have ever thus served as deterrents with constant posturing ...all the while hoping that the final step of 'put up or shut up' will never be realised... war games are reminiscent of an international 'harka'...if only it were that simple...

No they won't be keeping any serviceable solmanic. It keeps all the ones we have to ensure we have a few aircraft flying at any one time. They are just getting too expensive to maintain and airframes are runningour of hours.
As for what's being done with them.. the bulk of them are f1-11G's all are being scrapped / destroyed / shredded. This was part of the rpiginal purchase agreement with the USA as they are "neuclear arms capabble". As if anmyone would get hold of one from a static display and use it for that purpose.... Anyway it''s a damn shame.
From what I understand the others will end up
1. As static displays at Air Force bases
2. In museums. I have no idea on what basis the ADF is makign the call on WHO gets them, but you can be sure that there will be a reqyuirement for a significant sum of money to change hands in most cases.

The last batch of F1-11 were a donation with strings ( and new motors) that sort of came about when the yanks agreed to sell some more modern fighters ( and the factory to build them) to a nation not so far away. whose population had been wiped up to chanting in the streets" Australia much land no people, ( we) much people no land" add to that the purchases of 100 plus navel ships from the former USSR BLA BLA

Beleive it or not they are actually running an Defence Force, not a kids circus. There's no way in hell they will keep one serviceable, including all teh mechanical work and TRAINING of both mechs and pilots and keeping pilots current on type (hours required) etc etc for a few PR stunts.
Take my word for it.
