I couldnt agree more that rabid submissions are not effective - I make submissions every week for a living in a self employed capacity, so I can concur with that. I asked people on another forum this morning to make reasoned and reasonable submissions for the very reason that ranting will not help, and that anyone assessing it will likely turn off.
Further governments look at feedback to gauge public opinion before committing themselves - if they think they have already lost the 4wding and fishing vote because the majority of the submissions are rabid and pre-judged in their content, for example, they will not be too concerned about being conservative in their changes on Stradbroke. If they think they can still win that vote and still get some green vote they will tend to allow for the interests of both. Lets not lose sight of the fact that this government in particular is absolutely driven by public opinion. Lets also not lose sight of the fact that this government is relying on the green vote preferences to have any hope of getting re-elected at the next election, which is why a persuasive and strong voice is required to combat green vote buying as much as possible. Having said that it will not stop the changes, but modification and ameliorisation is the key.
I am very keen to get people to write in and provide well thought out submissions and ask that the recreational use be kept - however there is no doubt that this government WILL take away aspects of what people have enjoyed and used responsibly for many decades on Stradbroke Island. If you lived in Queensland you would not have difficulty apprehending the likely changes as I have done.
Cheers
