Thread: Spotties what type Hella or IPF

The Hella Rallye 4000s handle the water allright. Have had mine for nearly 5 years now and they have been fine and never leaked water. However if immersed is a good idea to turn them off and also if possible let them cool before entering deep water. All lights will crack or blow if left on for extended periods. The Hellas are also a lot cheaper if you buy from truck shops and can be picked up for $180-$200 each.

Lightforce are basically waterproof. Wiring is thru compressed rubber glans. In the 140, 170 & 240Blitz range the lenses are sealed with an Oring around the screw on reflector.
They are made from hi strength plastic so won't rust or corrode.
There is a HID version or a conversion kit for halogen models.
Main lens cover is virtually indestructible, the list goes on.
I sell a set of Lightforce they stay sold. Sell Hellas, we need to stock bases and reflectors. These are the first two things to go when a truck hits a roo etc. Lightforce, just straighten them back up and your off again.
I've had just about everything including IPF and these gave me the worst run I have ever had.
Spreadbeam reflectors constantly cracking, leaking front cover seal filling them with water, bad earth connection inside on the body.
Instill have them on the RRC but sitting high up on top of the bulbar. Turn them on and yeah they light up, turn on the Blitz' as well and you can't even see the beam from the IPF's. Turn off the IPF's and there's really no difference.

I think a lot depends on your own experiences and views.
Yep sure have seen Hellas broken, but have also seen Lightforces shattered from animal impact. Have seen a set full of water after heavy rain and a set half full of water after being submerged, that were supposed to be water proof and around 4 sets that have discoloured badly for unknown reasons. So I guess its what you know and what price you can get them for. Have hit 2 roos with the Hellas and heaps of birds and only ever had to re-adjust them. But I can say similar with a set of Narvas I have as well. Saw a set of IPF's crack when hot and heavy rain (cold, driving rain).
Hellas are by no means perfect but have served me well at great price.

I had IPF on my old D3, they were good lights. Had them submerged several times, never leaked a drop. Good strong beams & were a big improvement over the Bi-Xeon D3 lights.

I have got Hella Rallye 4000 HID's now, on the D'fer. Wow these lights are unbelievable. More light, over a longer distance then you could ever need. Haven't had them submerged but the construction and water proofing measures appear to be ample.

Go with the Hella's.....

+1 I have the 900XS ones which I got on fleebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IPF-900XS-ROU...ht_4150wt_1170 . They are great, light is fantastic, they arn't too large and I've had them submerged many times without them filling with water. I'm really happy with them.

I didn't want ones that were too large as they block the cooling on your radiator etc.

I have two sets of ipf xs 800 rectangle spot lights and love them. Which is why i bought the second pair.

I bought a kit of HID predator performance setup from ebay and that has made them fantastic. with slimline ballast the hid unit goes inside the light between the lens and housing I drive at night every night in the country, and i couldnt live without them.

I hit a big red roo the other night which shattered one of the light covers and the arb bar flexed and damaged the bonnet, and the ipfs were fine just re adjusted them and fine.

I would consider HID lightforce 240 XGT's simply too have a light with bigger lense area. If IPF did a bigger light id buy them.

But u really need the ipf 'xs' lights, the standard ipf's ive heard arent good.

I had IPF's, Narva, Super Oscars and now Light Force 170's again.

They are very very strong, love the blue covers for visual aid and have not leaked or shown any signs of condensation.

My Disco does not travel fast enough to warrant anything any more powerful and the size does not seem to impact airflow or cooling at all.

My hand goes up for the Light Force 170's because from experience I found the best.
I have a pair of Narva's you can have for Nix(Merry Xmas)
One has a stone hole otherwise perfect but no wiring included.
