Can you explain why please, not argueing with you, just have no idea whats wrong with them.

If you are 6 ft 3 your head is constantly in the hot air zone near the ceiling and you can't have dangly lamp fittings or ceiling fans. My wife doesn't agree.:D

Can't say I agree with that statement. One of sarking's uses is as a vapor (condensation) barrier. If it is not fitted correctly under roofing, then it's themal benefits are minimal. Even fitted correctly, sarking only has an R rating of (about) 1.3 IIRC.

Double post

In reference to Brian's comments about Dalby's new estates (can't quote on my phone) I currently live in one. They are mostly slab homes and there are stories around about dodgy builders but they faired very well in the floods. We are in a flood prone area and all the old school houses around us flooded badly but our estate did not. Some houses look to have gone very close and some yards went under. Thing is the houses are on built up pads which are equivalent to low to medium stumps. They all have tin roofs too. Because the houses are built up the roads channel the water away from the houses instead of into them like in the older areas.
The most annoying thing about the new estates is that they cut the underground power during the floods as a precaution.
I'm sure some new houses did go under but no where near as many as the older ones.

do not confuse construction design and method with construction practice...ie just because some one Fubars modern construction does not make it inferrior to older methods....just means they short cutted etc

all of the Qld'rs I have worked on, some over 100 years old, all suffered rot, termites, average workmanship (in some areas) hardly a straight or plumb wall,straight or level floor....

also to do with thermal design and convection....a 9 foot ceiling'd home, all things being equal, will be more comfortable than a 8 foot ceiling..

All my ceilings are 12 feet. Bloody lot to paint.

Sadly miy ceilings aer 8ft at most - I love HIGH ceilings and if I had the cash wou;d be living in a house with them.

On sarking - it is an excellent line of defence against water. Any water coming in under the tiles (very likely if you have, as we did, the old design of tile clips) will hit the sarking and run away instead of dropping down onto your ceiling and making a water stain.

Sarking is still not compulsory with only about 1 in 5 houses having it installed from new - just anotehr example of builders saving money where people don;t know teh advantages or need for a product.
