on tv about 2 years ago you can buy them in flat pack from china , they have the plumbing and wireing all in ready to go

I know the Shire Councils surrounding Greater Brisbane were very down on "temporary" accomodation. There are quite a number of lower priced small acreage estates in these areas, mostly cheap rubbish land the farmers were pleased to be quit of. People would apply to council for permission to live in a shed or caravan saying that this was only whilst they were building a proper house. Their intention in too many cases was never to build and councils woke to this. Usually permission would only be granted when a building application was made and building permission granted. Usually the building had to be completed within two years and certain stages of construction had to be met at certain times in those two years. If not, then the building permit was cancelled as was the living permission. Rightly so, as too many of these areas were becoming rural slums.

At DSS, we referred to these estates as "beno blocks" where DSS clients (benos) went to live to avoid the workforce and retire on the rock'n roll. The inner Moreton Bay islands were the original beno blocks.

We live in Moreton Bay Shire (just... - old Pine Rivers Shire, one street from BCC) and I have been thinking about getting one for a WKSP, not to live in but as a shed with carport on the front. Any idea what the council thinks of that kind of usage as opposed to living in it?

Why not ask? Better, why not price a proper shed. You could get a pleasant surprise. Someone in an earlier post on this thread mentions $3,000-$4,000 for a container. That is not a bad start on a proper shed.

A friend was refused permission in Redland Shire for a large 40' x 30' shed. He gave the purpose as garage and workshop for collector cars.

Later, after studying the rules, he applied for the same thing as a garden and domestic storage shed and was OK'd.

After reading the latest "Restored Cars" mag I would not like to be a resident of Logan shire with their Quaint regulations reguards to what constitutes vehicle repairs/maintainance,handbook maintainance only,the regs have been in force since 2006, but are hard to find on their website
