how the hell does gst on an imported good make the offshore seller contribute to this country....it would be coming out of the consumers pocker! we are talking online sales here remember....
I also contribute in the same forms as you, but would like to see the internal money used more towards the country.....christ, look at the wages of government employees and such....there is no way I could run my business like they do....taxing the imports under $1000 will do nothng but pay a few more workers and further line the pockets of beurecrats
the reason all the costs are so high are to do with the quailty (good) of living we have in a large country with a small population.....Im happy to pay all those things to maintain it. charging GST on imported goods under $1000 will not reduce the costs here, it will also contribute 2/5ths of bugger all to the country at the end of the day....this is only short term while our dollar is good...
was it not the busness peoples who wanted australia to be part of the free trade agreement and now it has come back and bit them on the backside they now want to change the rules again
They do - it's called comodity trading, but the cost of shipping is prohibitively expensive and no one does fuel by air courier*!

This guy works out of a shed about the size of a triple garage in his back yard. His only staff are his wife and a son who work part time as required. Son receives a disability pension. Everything he sells is at least double or more a reasonable price. I don't mind as he is no competition.

So to summarize this thread...
Those in australian business want GST added to online orders and imports
and
Consumers dont
and
these differing perspectives will never allow a consensus at least while the dollar is as it is.
