    Yeah, welcome back, briefly.

How did you go in the HSC?

Was the choice of UNE because its closer to home?

Do some extra subjects to enable you to teach in highschool if you need to. There is a major shortage of male primary teachers, but not primary teachers in general. Having the ability to work in a highschool if you need to would be beneficial. If you are into metal work and that sort of thing why not teach that and share your love for the craft?

I cant see that happening, with the increase in school leaving age from 16 to 17yrs of age I was told that TAFEs are now sending kids back to school who were doing the School certificate via TAFE and they are now pushing to be an adult education facility.

With the development that the board of studies and the DET have put into the Design and Technology curriculum it wont be going anywhere any time soon.

They may do away with Metal Work and Wood work as a stand alone subject because they have been trying to do that for a while. They want to have it as Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) and have the subjects as Design and Tech Metal, Design and Tech Wood, Design and Tech Sewing, etc etc etc.

If you wanted to add this subject area to you expertise I would advise that you look at D&T based subjects and then pick up some metal qualifications which will act as credits. If you did a mechanics course or welding course or similar course to this to say CertIII level then you would get credits. When you do these in the school system so that you can deliver the subjects you will be acredited in a CertIV in work place assessment and training which is worth alot of cash in many industries. If you decide to leave teaching these qualifications are valuable and can allow you to deliver the OH&S white card which is now a requirement for all building sites, fork lift and other machinery training that sort of thing. All you need to do is be certified as competent yourself and with the CertIV in Work Place Assessment and Training you can then assess others. Valuable skills to have.
