Rusted Door Frames in my Defender 110 TD5 (99/00)

I'm not sure if any of you have had the same problem. Though the outer skins on my defender's doors are immaculate (as they are aluminium), the steel frames inside have completely rusted through... so bad that the rear, driver side door is held together with rope!

I'm pretty desperate so if you know anyone selling some doors (i really need the driver side: front and rear), please let me know... preferably white, but beggars can't be choosers. Also if you know anyone in Sydney that can cut and weld new frames in please let me know... I got a quote of $1,200 per door from a guy in St Peters (around the corner from Graeme Cooper), which made me feel ill.

Hi Mike, at $1200 per door, no wonder you felt ill.He clearly has too much work on and has quoted you a ludicrous figure to see what you would do. Bound to be useable doors out there somewhere that would be much cheaper. Some years ago,ALL4X4 in Kotara, Newcastle, stocked the correct sections in steel to allow new frames to be welded up.I don't know if they still do but it would be worth checking with them.Hope that helps in some way. Cheers, 130man.

It is a common repair, I did my own frame replacement as I had some doors from a rollover & the bottoms were OK to graft over.

I'm amazed someone has never shipped out a supply from England

Here is the work I did.

    Hi All

I know a fellow Land Rover owner that owns a very large / long break ( spelling check please? ) press.
I'll have a chat with him, as I need the bottom rail replaced also, it's for the passenger door.

    Cheers Arthur

I need new door frames too, they all have rot, and the front frames are damaged where the throw limiting bar goes, it has cut into the frame allowing the door to over-open.
Please keep the thread up to date with any solutions, and if having 4 more doors to fix makes the price cheaper per unit let me know!

I need 4 for my 130, ive been quoted, when you can get them around $800 plus shipping for second hand ones. Brand new steel doors, no alli, around $800 new. Im also staring to get a bit desperate but really dont want to spend $3600 plus painting. There is a mob in the UK that do the bottom replacement section, Ill have to look though an old Magazine to find it.

Id love some kind, honest person in the UK to organise and send us out a whole container load Im sure we could get rid of them in no time at all.- having said that I am sure they have the same problem there with doors though.

    Cheers

    Hi All

Graham dropped by today, with some door frame sections that he made up, for me to look at.

At this stage it's only the formed section of the bottom of the frame, with out the spot welded flat backing plate.
It's made from galvanized plate, so rust should not be a problem with the repaired section .

The door skin would need to be folded back in a way that would allow it to be put back into position tidely after the new section has been welded back into the frame.

He also looked at the rear cross member that has rotted away on one of my project 2A's, He said that he can fold up the basic parts for that as well.

    Cheers Arthur

If anyone is thinking of doing these.. I'm sure there would be *heaps* of interest. I'd get a full set of four.

For those in Brisbane, I just had my doors repaired for less than $200/door. The repair sections were made from zinc plated steel. I did the removing and refitting of the doors, and will do the paint, but they only need a touch up.

PM me if you want the details of the guy who did mine.
