Sounds a little like sour grapes.
Not really a reason to take your bat and ball and go.
If you enter into a debate, provide the facts, not theory or fiction (unless of course that is what is being discussed). If you can not, then humbly back off.
I for one have been in plenty of differing discussions and on occasion have felt the same and thought about backing out, but did not especially when I knew I was right. On occasion the person who actually knew SFA and was only voicing their opinion and not fact has got the upper hand, but most times I will re group and fight back.
Unfortunately in this case I think you may be wrong and you may not want to admit it or may genuinely think you are right and that is ok.
I too have been down that path and also proven wrong and just moved on.
You should really consider that. Would you leave your employment over such a disagreement?
Hope you think about it a bit as all comers are welcome here, but in the end it is your choice.

I think another lesson is not to back people into a corner, or back yourself into a corner. That way if you do need to change your mind you'll be able to do so without loss of face.

Also, if you give someone an 'out' which allows them to change view without you doing a public victory dance they'll be forever grateful and that will pay off in future posts.

Crushing an oppponent on line is really very much a short-term victory.

Agreed, CraigE, it was childish to take my bat and ball and walk away, a knee jerk reaction because it seemed that one set of rules applied to me and another to everyone else. It was not sour grapes. I see now I would have been better to argue back within the rules allowed to me.

It is difficult though to know what you mean by "provide the facts, not theory or fiction". I felt (and feel) that I WAS quoting facts. I did not cite references, but then neither did the other contributors.

If I am shown to be wrong, I have no problem admitting it - I have had plenty of practice doing so! However, though I may walk away from a discussion when I feel I am batting my head against a brick wall, I won't walk away saying I was wrong unless I believe I WAS wrong. In this case, I am morally and absolutely convinced that I was completely correct, but as a lone voice against the aggressive 'opposition' I gave up.

Of course in a forum like this there should be no concept of arguing back, or opposition.

I would like to write a short essay on battery management and post it here. I am not sure it will be welcome, but when I get time I will do it. It might well save someone from grief.

The hassle was over the best way to charge batteries. My experience has been with stand-alone solar power systems not automotive, but the principles are the same. You may need to apply a co-efficient to the bent' n' twisted factor according to what caused the bent'n'twisted. I.e Car park of actual off roading.
