Gee richard4U2 , I see your spelling is on a par with your attitude.

Take your pick. Did you mean a place of incarceration as in gaol or jail.

I did a site visit at Barwon prison the other day and guess what , it was full of white people.

I'm fairly sure that wherever we go the town will be welcoming as most small towns are. My son is a couple of years off school so my wife will more than likely stay at home with him and do a couple of corro courses. I could be away frequently and my wife is comfortable with that at the moment. If this all comes off it sure will be a great adventure.

    Thanks

This is going to be one hell of an adventure.

    Hi there Rob.
I didn't know the GRR was a mine road???????
Are you working for MRWA or DownerMouchel (or someone else)?

    Cheers,
    Chris

Well here i am now in Derby and loving it. The only unfortunate thing was I had to sell my D1 due to the company not financing it's move there. But all is not lost I will end up buying another LR product whilst I'm here. I now drive a Hilux for the time being but I still would rather be in an LR.
    All good for now

Get onto the local fishing club, we pulled into Derby on a patrol boat in the 80's, [had to anchor a looong way from the wharf in a hole, at low tide we were stranded in the hole... but wait, I digress] we took some 44 gal drums of fuel to their fishing spot , up like a kind of tropical fiord, if that makes sense, they had a campsite, with running water from a water pipe stuck in a waterhole further up the hillsite, just lower the pipe by rope tied to it, presto, fresh water. And the fishing! never seen anything like it.We caught a trevally, tied it off behind the boat, the school just followed, you could pick the fish you wanted to catch. When we went to the wharf by tinnie, I saw the biggest mud crab I've ever seen, caught from the wharf. Definately a fishermans paradise. Sorry about waffling on, I've been too long away from that part of the world.Enjoy, Bob

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    The whole of the gibb?

I found it interesting that the road is like a highway between Kunners and El-Questro, then deteriorates quite markedly after that.

I'm sure it is so the grey nomads can tow their caravans in to ELQ, then back to Kunners... I wondered at the time if ELQ pay or if they have a deal going with the council?

Gibb River Road is a state road so nothing to do with the local Shire. ELQ may have made a developer contribution to upgrade of the road, I suppose it is in their best interests to ensure wet weather access for both their tourism and pastoral activities. Then again, it could be no more than MRWA starting with upgrading of the GRR at the highway and working their way west.

ELQ closes beginning of wet and opens up again once they have cleaned up all the debris from the floods.
Not a tourist in sight around here usually between Nov-April.

Pity you ended up in Derby Boxhead63, o well, make the most of it.
even bigger shame you had to sell your Landy, the up side might be that you can upgrade to a Defender now?

I live in Kununurra (KNX) and am loving it.

No doubt you'll come through one day... there's more and more Defenders here every year.

Derby is better town people wise

I lived in Derby 2002 - 2007 and enjoyed it and the whole Kimberley. I had a 1985 110 Isuzu. Bloody awesome truck for bush bashing the back blocks. I lead seven tagalong treks over the years and still have plenty of unfinished business out there.
