Hi, does anyone know of anywhere in Melb, Geelong or anywhere else in Vic that fits the CRAB bar for childs car seats.

I looked up on the RACV website approved fitting stations/garages for child seat restraints in Geelong.They listed one which I visited, all they seemed familar with was the upright bracket that goes on the floor.

They had blank gormless expressions on there faces when I mentioned the CRAB bar. It was blatlantly obvious that they had not fitted or seen a CRAB bar before.So I was not prepared to let them attempt to fit one if they've never done one before!

I do not want to go for the bracket in the floor as (a) they do not lookas sturdy or secure to me (b) they will interfere with anything you are carrying (c) I want to put a drawer system in anyway.

This is for a 2006 Defender 110.

The guy said they do a lot of older cars 'hot rods etc' that don't have child restraints fitted.


I came across them at a local 'cops and rodders' show, according to their site they do service Melbourne and operate as a mobile service

This was part of their display so they are certainly aware of the 'crab bar'



Somewhere I have a photo of one installed in my defender if needed.

I got a crab bar mounted to my 86 county recently from GP motors in Bairnsdale (RACV fitting station) essentially just a bar fitted across the tub behind the rear seats with tabs for mounting the child seat anchors - they had to fit it themselves and wouldn't let me do it even though it is a very simple install. I think it cost me around $200-300 fitted. I would think if they can get one any decent fitting station should be able to obtain one.
