    X-trail

Just wondering if anyone owns a Nissan X-Trail. One will be joining us on a trip soon ( No low range driving ) but wonder if they have a strong tow point/ recovery hook on the front.
    Thanks.

Standard, no they do not have a recovery point. Worth while fitting one. Also be aware in sand driving the gearbox is known to overheat and in extreme circumstance self destruct.

Drops back to 2wd until it cools down.

I second that! I had one, no recovery points at the front.

It's a "soft roader" and should only be used as such. I can see heaps of front bumper damage being done during recoveries.

While the X trail does not have recovery points neither does just about every other 4wd as standard, whether they be full on 4wds or softroaders so this is really not a point to criticise these vehicles.

We really like ours. So there!

However it's more my wife's car & doesn't get used for proper offroading.
So I'm afraid that I'm really no help to the OP.

    I'll get my coat.

None of the manufacturers want to leave themselves open to any litigation by a supposed recovery point failing because they can never control how the point was used. They are listed as either tie down or towing points if they are on any vehicle.

I didn't criticize it for starters.
I made my comment because I don't want to see a trip ruined because of someone in a vehicle that was designed for touring on relatively good roads try to follow someone in a vehicle that was designed for pretty much anything get stuck every couple of hundred meters and eventually ruin their vehicle. I think the x trail is an awesome little car but it is no Landrover. Not even close. Answer this question honestly: You have planned a trip in your Landrover, you know you will need low range, your mate in a vehicle with no low range and road tyres asks to come. What would you do?
