    Aussie coachbuilt racing Land Rover

    Hi,

New here: just wanted to ask if anyone can point me toward a special modifier of Land Rover that was (still is?) active in Australia in the 90s. They took Defenders and stripped em down, added a supercharged V8 and took them racing. They were soft tops and had circular doors (not kidding).

Wheels magazine (Paul Cockburn it was) did a test of them once. He described the acceleration like falling off a building.

    That's all I can remember.

    Cheers.

Are you sure you aren't referring to Bush Rangies made by John E Davis Motorworks?

I used to live up the road a few km from Paul and family, he has a nice E Type in BRG with side exiting exhaust, Simmons rims and rather large rubber.

(not that that really helps you question )

That looks like it - except the doors.

Hey, thanks for the real quick answer. Was going out of my brain (never throw out your old car magazines). That looks pretty much spot on - maybe the circular fabric doors were only for the prototype that Wheels tested and the one I saw just happened to be that same one.

One more detail I've since remembered: there was a manual boost controller for the supercharger. It was just a control at the end of a length of a loose cable handing from the dash, there was a dial with a + and a - and that's it.

    Thanks heaps.
