    FOUND A 2.5 LTR 5 BEARING 4 CYLINDER ENGINE

I have known about these 5 bearing motors for years and have all ways been quietly looking for one over the years,as the are an engine that can be worked and turbo etc. Yesterday while searching the yard of a friend here in north Qld, he only has about 100 now. I lifted the bonnet of an old ser 2 about 1955 mod station wagon not expecting what I found, first up it has a duel throat carby then I saw next to it the flat surface on the head next to it which I remenbered reading about in a british landrover magazine some years ago, further inspection and a computer hunt last night reveled some interesting differences all so and after checking the engine number and a big Google and utube hunt it confirmed what I have found. It appears that this engine is 100% complete and it still starts and runs

Above 3x screw for mounting A POWER STEER OR OTHER ITEM

THE FLAT CAST BLOCK IN THE CENTRE OF HEAD NEXT TO CARBY IS WHAT DREW MY ATTENTION TO IT THE HEAD IS DIFFERENT COMPRESSION RATIO CAN BE TAKEN OUT TO ABOUT 3-1 ?

NO ITS NOT FOR SALE AT THIS TIME

I used to have a factory turbo kit for a 2.25 but sold it to buy a 4.4V8 with adaptor. One of those things I wish I still had. Pat

Are you sure that is a Landrover motor? as it looks like either a Rover 90 or a BMC 2.2ltre petrol, the Rover 90 had a twin throat solex like that one,and the oil filler at the front of the rocker cover, the 5 bearing Landrover 2.25 is easily ID'ed by the extra web castings just above the sump line to strengthen the block, they had a 36IV Zenith Carby, with fuel cutout switch, the oil filler is/was in the same place as the 3 bearing motor, it looks the same as a 3 bearing, except for that extra web casting, the flywheel and it's bolt pattern differs,as does the rear crankshaft seal, and clutch housing casting,as I have the remains of a 5 bearing motor here, that self destructed at 120kph on the Bruce Hwy a few years ago,(they only came out in the fully imported S3 wagons and some private imports), I did the engine change to a 3 bearing. the 2.2 ltre BMC motor went into the Morris/BMC van of about mid/late 60's from memory (about the same time as Bedford CA vans)

If that centre flat bit has 8 stamped on it it is an 8:1 compression head, all the CKD Landrovers assembled in Aust had 7:1 heads, but an 8:1 head could be had as a special order.

    cheers

    check utub

I will check out what you say tomorrow about the castings this engine came into Aust. in Landrover from New Zealand and the engine says its a landrover 2.5 motor
Go to Utube and type in Landrover 2.5 ltr engine and you will see a couple on there exactly the same as this one .

Aah! a 2.5 litre that could well be from a coil sprung model,110/90 which was not marketed here, so that would be why I do not recognise it,what is the engine No? that would give a clue as to it's age.

    cheers

More research shows that it is out of a coiler vehicle and it has a 9 to 1 compression ratio you will get a chance to view it as its coming back to Brisbane some time soon
