    Some People Are...

Live in a new house in a new estate....not that it actually matters....as the same rules of respect should apply....but recently I got a new neighbour. Around my area people are doing their level best to get their homes up to scratch as quickly as time and their bank accounts allow. Everybody is doing a pretty good job.

My new neighbour...who is actually a tennant, doesn't seem to think that there is any problem with smoking copious quantities of cigarettes outside his house and just flicking the butts wherever he sees fit!

It took me less than 3 minutes to pick up 15+ butts on two occasions. The second time I left about 20 in a pile on his lawn. I saw him pick up the pile and since then there has been no new fresh ones on my lawn.

However, today I was out giving the lawn a drink and there were still a few around his driveway...which with wind, will end up on my garden. I then checked the storm drain, which clearly states "Do Not Dump Waste, Flows To Creek"....which it does. Surprise, surprise, surprise....storm drain is full of fag butts.
I just want to go out and belt the ***** around the head. There seriously isn't any latitude....no room for "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise that covering your lawn and garden in in fag butts over a few days would **** you off"....or..."does that notice on the storm drain cover refer to cigarette butts?"

    Geez........

Gotto talk to my copper mates.....

I know what you mean, but Im pretty sure I know what your "copper mates" (miners are they? or sculptures?....bronze lasts longer... ) will say...

how do we prove he did it?
what penalty applies? Most likely an on the spot fine IF it can be proven.

If my mates approached me about this, Id tell them to start with
    a) owner
    b) council
    c) a video and a lot of patience that will yield a piddling fine at best...

mind you mates in marked cars dropping in regularly for a coffee or a chat may halp as your next door neighbour may worry about what could happen....

(unless of course he is employed in that line of work?!)

    cheers
    Good luck.

Log onto the EPA website and report him for littering...

I know 2 people that flicked cigerette butts out thier car windows that were dobbed in and got fined - no recourse unless you want to go to court and challange it... They were both ticked off, but I had a good chuckle.

Have you actually spoken to him , and voiced your concerns? When you go to see him, take a small gift, like a small bin, and suggest he put his butts in there.Perhaps invite him in for a cup of tea, very civilised way to discuss things. What ever you do, do it in such a way as to not create an enemy. By the way, do you know his name? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Definitely have a civilised chat. If that fails, then approach Council as they love any chance to write an infringement notice (no offence to those on this forum engaged in such employment), then EPA.

I suggest your degree of response be reflective of his response to you.

    Good advice there.

The world (society in general) would be a better place if more people did as above. But of course, the bloke might just be an arrogant twit in which case you give him both barrels - in the knowledge that you did make a genuine attempt to fix the situation in a cordial and appropriate manner.

In reading the above paragraph, I have to add, the world would be a better place if people just did the right thing in the first place - like not putting dirty cigarette butts everywhere!

    Waste of time.
Better of reporting him to DERM as the EPA no longer exists for QLD.

Take photos and sent an email. They will more than likely send someone out to sort him out.

    Link to DERM
