For example Hospitals treat many for heart disease, stroke and cancer caused by the fast junk food, smoking & alcohol that we eat & drink. If the government had the balls to tell the Public that the fast food they ate made clogged up their arteries, and could lead to them spending years in a nursing home with a big hairy male nurse washing their privates and wiping their bottom because they had a stroke due to clogged up arteries [from eating fast greasy food], then perhaps fewer would eat & drink what will put them in nursing homes employing big hairy male nurses, when they get to later in life [I worked in a nursing home for a while, and had to wipe stroke victim's bottoms]. That is a lot of the cost of keeping pensioners healthy, medical bills, etc., that the tax payer pays for is due to people being kept in ignorance of the harm their lifestyle is doing them.

But back to the issue of this thread that I started, the proposed Road tax on us.
Everybody knows this, its just that some don't care enough to do anything about it or chose to stick their head in the sand. Same with smoking, I've even heard people say that there is no evidence that smoking causes cancer...... lol, puff away dumbass! My mum used to run a series of Cardiac Catheter labs, and they've had people on the table in their early 30's with plugged coronary arteries - fast lifestyle were her words.

Yeah, I suspected as much. You can't trust politicians ( I don't), I think that tax should be renamed the 3XFOREVER tax!!!

What a crock of ****. We are living in one of the most over taxed countries in the world. Preaty soon you will have to pay to breathe!!. Carbon tax...please explain...GST on top of income tax blah blah blah. If enough Australians stood up together and told our so called democratic government, NO, we will NOT put up with that. Then what will the government do, throw ALL of us in jail? It is just like our troops in Afganastan, shouldn't it be up to the Australian people to decide wether they should be over there or not? Tragic waste on all counts. I'm over hearing about the "soaring" cost of living be it electricity prices or bloody banannas!! Local councils are another example of patheticness (is that a word?) Always crying poor and saying that rate rises are necessary to maintain infrastructure then they spend hundreds of thousands on a bloody art gallery!!!!

Robbo, I don't think the cost of banana's is related to tax.

also we don't need to plant trees to offset our breathing carbon now until 2013.

I figure they should just do like on Jersey - no road fund (rego) no tolls, no nowt - except tax on fuel. That way, the more thirsty your vehicle, & of course the more you drive, the greater your contribution to the gov't's road funds.
    Seems obvious really?

There is a simple solution. Stop building roads.

    Bruce Hwy Tax

I suspect this one is a "Straw Man". Part of the smoke and mirrors whilst the carbon tax & other "essential financial reforms" are being undertaken.

The politicians know that it would be electoral suicide to put a toll on an existing road instead of a new road where the justification is that the toll is needed to pay for the road.

People hate tolls and were they are seen as unfair as this on would be the electoral backlash. Remenber the toll on the highway on the sunshine coast near Maroochydore. There was a huge public movement against it, which caused on of the major parties to make it the platform to remove the toll. They took the seat at the next election.

If we did not send so many billions to overseas countries and the parasites(politicians) did not waste so much and had more control over major projects such as school building and pink batts fiasco there would be heaps of cash for infrastructure. The money wasted on housing illegal imigrants would probably put a four lane lane freeway around Australia. Better finish this post as my blood pressure is going up.
