V8 Supercar Vodaphone Farce

Yep it is crap.
I remember the days of Moffat and Goss and the great sportsman, Murray Carter.
These were the days when holdens we real holdens, fords were real fords and small fury creatures from Alpha Centaury were un-heard of.:D

They used to drive cars that were road legal to Bathurst and race them, the saying was "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". It was real Ford versus Holden and a few others that were brave enough to enter the fray.

The company I used to work with sponsors Winterbottom and at Bathurst 2009 I was there, on a tour of the pits the team spokeswoman told us that:-

All the Fords and Holdens run the same FORD diffs

They all run the same FORD block, crank, conrods, pistons etc. The only place they can change things is from the heads up.

So the whole bloody show is just that, a show. there is no sport in it anymore.

One thing she said that made us laugh, she has a Falcon which wouldn't start one morning so a few of the team mechanics came around to fix it and couldn't make head or tail out of anything.

I referred to Murray Carter as a true sportsman.
One year Allan Moffats GTHO was stolen by hoons just before it was due to be sent to Bathurst for the great race. With no replacement available it looked like the number 1 Ford Factory driver would not participate. Murray Carter loaned them his GTHO. You wouldn't hear of that today!

I have to agree with you Craig and other that have put the V8's down, This is the second year I have been in Townsville for the 400 ser's. this year I and a lot of the crowd showed a lot more interest in the supports teams their pits were full all the times with the crowd and they were more interesting both on and off the track I felt . This merc is one of 20 in the world and the only one in the southern hemisphere the colour cost $14,000 and was done in Melbourne and this was the first outing for it, it drew a lot of interest.

I recall Brock, at Bathurst (mid 80's:confused:) taking the second vehicle after "05" stopped. In those days you could register as the third driver of another vehicle. (My memory is a bit vague on this one but pretty sure that's how it happened)

Having said all that, it was good to see Weber ignore team orders last night and attack Vitel. (He'll still moan about it though....thank god we got another aussie in F1)

It was three cars actually. He had a three car team and when the first one failed he kicked out a driver and when that one failed he did it again with the third car. I think it was because of this that the rules were then changed to stop it. So he won that year but it took three cars to do it.

Ahhh. When I was a boy and men were men and Fords had wooden wheels and the brakes were drums and their was non of this new fangled electricery. :twisted:

Things are always better a few years ago.

But seriously, as a kid I loved the V8's. I'm not quite as old as some of yoh but in my day it was Dick in Trublu and Brocky in the 05 Commodore. It was great racing but it was more about the reliability of the vehicles than anything else.
Today I still love the V8's. While I am a Ford man I have followed Triple 8 over to Holden. I really think it is more about team vs team now rather than Ford vs Holden.
Anyway it still gives us some great racing. I don't like the team tactics, but I can understand them doing it.

Not this little black duck, NASCAR for me.

Stopped watching V8 Supertaxis about 3 or 4 years ago, although still went to Barbagallo this year for the masters series and all other events.

Basically RD said Lowndes tyres were worse so he had to let Whinchup past. They changed tyres within ten seconds of each other. Larko walked out the garage and just said "Bull****".

I also do like Supercars, but to a lesser degree.
Moffat and Bond!!!!:o Team orders at its worst, Bond should have just taken that win and Bugger Moffat.:p
Yes Brock did flout the rules a bit with 3 car teams, but they were the rules and others did this as well. Having said that he still took a second or third car and brought them from down in the field to first.

I don't dislike the V8s because the're not like they used to be, it's more to do with the 2 car format, it doesn't need to be Holden V Ford it can be any form of 2 horse race, look at the German touring cars:no2: how boring is that format:(

Keep up with technology, but put some other cars in there for crying out loud and bugger off the parody bull**** give them a budget max and let them run on the own merit.

It's the only way to see what is better and in turn this will also flow on to the road car, just like it does with the bikes, this is why motorbikes are so much more advanced in reliabilty and technology.

And British Touring Car Championship for me :) Oh and the F1 (duh), ALMS, FIA GT and anything else that actually has excitement.

But for me, BTCC is the best form of racing to watch if you want lots of hard driving, overtaking, thrills and spills and decent circuits.

Rally is up there for me, but I prefer watching car on car, not time attacks.

I think the V8's are great but they have been better.
Regarding the results we have to remember a team is a team, these guys work pretty close with each other and they do have a boss who pays the bills and their wages.

That being said i would love to see a new class of racing.
My idea is simple, paint all the cars up like taxis they can have their sponsors on there and what not.
The cars would run a completely stock engine and drive train built by the factory. Tyres and suspension can be played with as well as engine mapping. Weight can be kept the same as they come from the factory, chuck in a cage take out the interior, speed limit them to 160kmh or so, you could have the field running diesels, hybrid, lpg, petrol any light passenger car manufacturer could be eligible.
I think people could relate to this type of racing, sure it wouldn't be the 600hp flat out racing that people know, it would be more the fact that you are watching you mums or your wifes car zipping around a track.
Even limit them to fuel usage, ie 20laps using only 20 litres they can choose to boot it or choose to cruise, it could even be very useful to some of the manufacturers in terms of R&D and instilling faith in new buyers about the cars they make as this is more real world than the V8's are. No pit stops if you need to stop you DNF and all mechanical failures must be reported and put in the results of the race.
