Welcome to Melbourne! Sounds like an interesting trip - good to see you made it safely.
I don't envy you the unpacking part - that is the worst part of moving...
Hope to see you round sometime.
Cheers - Gav.
We have finally arrived in Melbourne, family and all, after 23 hours of driving from northern Brisbane to Parkdale.
That is by far the longest drive i have done to date.
The kids coped reasonably well couped up in the back with SWMBO catching ZZZ's on the way down.
12,5 hours to Sydney was a relatively easy drive except for the 50km/h roads through the little towns, but really beautiful in some places.
Quick stop over in Sydney saw us up early.
The drive from Sydney to Melbourne had its moments.
The wind was horrendous, and towing a large heavy trailer did not help the situation much.
Then the rain came down, and then the wipers decided to give up. Drove about 50km in the rain. The sun came out. 15km later, the wipers started working again.
Then the aircon stopped working. 400km later, the aircon started working again.
10,5 hours and we arrived in Melbourne. Arrived at our overnight place (as we didnt feel like unpacking that night in the new house) and a few serious stiff drinks and life (and our new adventure) in Victoria officially began.
MANY THANKS to all those that contributed information and advice for the journey and look forward to meeting up with the members close to us and the surrounds of Melbourne and Victoria.
Next big task.. Unpack the truck on Tuesday. Then the adventure officially ends.

Our journey to Melbourne officially starts today, we've had our 457 visas granted this morning![]()
SWMBO's there at the moment, flys back to the UK on Tuesday but this weekend will see her checking out areas to live, seeing rental agents, visiting car dealers to see how we go about getting a car (not that easy when on a 457 and having zero credit history in Oz), finding out the cost of some of the electrical items we're having to leave behind (fridge / freezer etc) and all the other little things that will no doubt cross her mind to look at.
We're getting excited now![]()
Sounds great - have you got an area in Melbourne picked out where you want to end up yet? Also, once you're over here, if you need a hand with anything, just sing out. I may be able to help out with a few bits & pieces until you get sorted - it is a big move - I was only a kid when Mum & Dad made the move over here, and I still remember the trials & tribulations that went with moving your life half way around the world.
Cheers - Gav.

Thanks for the offer, seriously appreciate it.Once we're there I'm hoping to get together with a few of the Melbournite members ready for when the G4 arrives toward Christmas time.
Areas we're looking at are between Braeside (where my wife's job is located) and Brighton, so all the suburbs along the Nepean basically. She's been staying in Brighton (in the Quest at the moment) and she's off out scouting round this weekend, so Cheltenham, Hampton, Mentone, Mordialloc, Moorabbin, Beaumaris those sorts of places whilst we get a feel for the place and decide properly where we want to be (and also once I find a job, where that might put us).
We don't have kids but we do have a nutty springer spaniel that needs a load of exercise, so being close to a park / beach is important to us for that. We live on the edge of a country park here in the UK and only 2 miles from the beach, so dog walking is a doddle.
Excited though![]()
