Thread: The Telegraph Track & What It Takes To Drive It?

When we did it a few years ago, we saw a lot of broken camper trailers. About 6 or 7 from memory.

All of them were on the development road. Didn't see a single broken one on the otl.

If anything, the corrugations on the 'main' roads will be its undoing.

The otl itself isn't really that hard, or long.

Psimpson7 pretty much somes it up Terry, his only other concern might be the depth of some of the creek crossings and maybe clearence on some of them, most have a chicken track, but some don't.

It's not a hard drive, you just need to be careful on some of the creek crossings, I reckon it's a good drive and well worth doing rather than the corrigations of the Developmental road.

Water depth could/would be a killer, search Nolans Brook on youtube and you will see what I mean.

Not to mention the corrigations on some parts

Nolans brook and Palm creek did not have chicken tracks a few years back so that would be a concern.

Nolan's brook and Palm Creek do not have a bypass. Having just got back, I heard that Nolans had claimed 28 cars in the last few weeks. (personally spoke to a couple of people who had their trucks towed from Nolans). Palm creek is quite extreme and is an almost guarantee winch job in either direction. In my opinion, there is no chance unless you are very happy to wreck your truck and trailer.

Regarding the camper, if it is not heavy duty suspension, then it will not even make it to the start of the OTT.

I have done it up & back twice in the last few yrs,& i wouldn't take a ute,yet alone one towing a camper.Apart from Nolans & Palm ck,there also some other deep crossings,or "fords" as they are called on the map.A snorkle would be a must if he wants to give it a go,& a set of good A/t or LT tyres.

As others have said,it is also the corrugations on the roads that cause many problems.Walking the creeks before crossing is also extremely important.This is what causes the trouble at Nolans,many drive straight through & get crossed up.A walk through,& you can pick where to cross.

My son is there now,& apparently the roads are no where near as badly corrugated as they were a few yrs ago.They had no trouble at all on the OTT,except not taking the chicken track at gunshot.......

I will try once again to enlighten my inlaw that maybe he should reconsider his equipment options based on this valuable first hand knowledge.

Though I expect that once again it will fall on deaf ears.
