    Anyone had a TJ Wrangler?

My daughter is looking at one (in Victoria of all places)...
So anyone got any HELPFUL first hand knowledge / advice?

Been having a sticky at ausjeepoffroad too.
It's a 2001 model, I know they suck juice like anything.
I've driven a few over the years, and don't mind them actually.

    Thanks in advance.

I think a well maintained one would be good. Before I bought grumble i had a look at a few around the same age and was sadly disallusioned by the general condition of the ones I drove. They all had driveline slap and clunked in and out of gear and on and off throttle and the canopies left something to be desired. Either the ones I looked at had had a hard short life or they suffer general wear and tear quickly. I think specialised knowledge would be your friend.

O-D on this forum has one, he has lifted and locked it very cheaply $300 put a snorkle on a few weeks ago for under $200, he has had issues with the radiator and a switch on the auto when it was hot but man he loves it, put it on gas as they like a drink. dont go the oil burner version as they are very underpowered and only manual.

Try looking at the Limited version as they have some nice luxuries

ausjeepoffroad they are to jeep world as AULRO is to LR

Coincedently the one that loves me just bought a new JK Unlimited (4door) from Melbourne last week While It isnt big enough for a family tourer it is a very nice vehicle and is probably the most capable vehicle you could find for $45K driveaway.
There are some good deals around on the 70th aniversary ones at the moment if your budget could stretch to a a new one. Shorty ones are about $38K driveaway.
Ours seems to be getting about 12Lt/100KM at the moment on a still very tight engine. Will be interesting to see what it gets once run in.
The JK is a significant upgrade on the TJ and the 2011 model gets a new dash as well.

    Regards,

My sister has a TJ Wrangler, not a bad vehicle, she loves it and I love driving it on the beach its like a big go kart

Its had its share of issues in the 3-4 years she has owned it though, i think hers is a 2001 as well, when she first got it the suspension was very sagged and most of the suspension bushes needed replacing, it now sits nice after some ARB springs etc and rides very well.

It also had a few issues with the engine developing a miss after a trip to fraser island, after a lot of hunting we found it was TPS - which we had to replace twice as the first new replacement gave the same issues... it took us a long time to work that one out. its also had a few other eletrical problems other things like the head light switch melting down etc but all its good now.

This is hers on fraser - she thinks its great even with the poor fuel economy

I had a 98 tj for a short while the soft top likes to have small rip above the doors so you must buy a new one from o/s thankfully with the current exchange rate this will be far cheaper than 6 years ago.

auto can overheat easily if towing, you need shares in caltex and apart from that they are usually quite a nice truck.

electrical gremlins can be a problem, and repairs can be expensive as hell, people complain about lr parts, jeeps are usually worse.

mate had one for a few years and went round au twice in it
