    Angry Landrover warranty

    Hi Guys.
I have a drama withe the rear window demister on my 2008 Puma. In march this year i had the rear window replaced under warranty. The warranty on my Puma ran out at the end of may.In very early June i noticed that the top 3 lines of the rear demist were not working. This was the first time it had been used since the replacement. After calls to landrover warranty and there lack of returning calls etc they finally came back to me and said they will not warrant the replacement under warranty as it runs out with the vehicle. If i had replaced the window myself (as in a broken window) then i would have 12months warranty on the replaced part. However as it was done under warranty its warranty ran out with the vehicle even tho it was only a few months old and had not been used.Landrover tell me that if it were replaced the week before it runs out and a week after it did not work then it would still not be covered under warranty. My vehicle still only has 67k on it and is kept in clean top order. It really p****s me off that after owning 3 landrovers (2 fron new) and always being a good customer that they will not cover an item that they replaced only a few months later because the vehicle warranty had run out by 10 days. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards

    Eck

Perhaps a polite letter to them outlining that you believe you have been treated unfairly and in that light you plan on asking an independent umpire for a deterrmination - aka what ever state government fair trading tribunal you have. In Victoria that would be VCAT.

Good luck what ever you do.

I understand their point but if you're firm with them and remain polite you might get it fixed.

On my previous Ford Territory it was serviced 4 days outside warranty (must remember to book it in a few days earlier next time) and they found a split exhaust, a rear suspension mount rubber split and the lower ball joints hadn't been replaced.
Ball joints no problem but they said they would contact Ford to see if they would go part costs on the other items. I said don't do anything if they won't, I'll get the exhaust welded and complain about the level of support on every forum I can find.
Collected the car that night with everything fixed at no cost.

I used to work with a guy who was an ex Holden service manager. He said that they had a monthly budget for warranty work so they would even try to knock back genuine warranty claims if their budget was used up. Makes you think about booking in for a service at the start of a month (and checking when your warranty runs out....)

Best of luck with the claim....

Not commenting on the LR warranty issues.

If you have a problem with the demister lines not working and don't want the cost of replacing the glass there are repair kits out there. These kits have a small bottle of copper in suspension which is painted across the point of failure, restoring the electrical connection.

The failure is usually a scratch across part of the circuit and if you can identify the spot, (frequently requires a close inspection with a magnifying glass) you can perform the repair yourself.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If you don't get a result with the claim....

Buy a new glass, 'fit it' and a couple of months later go back & complain that "this is the second one that's failed" and get it replaced.

You now have 2 windows with working demisters, fit one sell the other one on Epay.

my experience when i worked at my local ford dealer (canberra) if we did a service and something was rooted even if the car was out of warranty normally less then a month it was fixed under warranty most times un known to the customer. how ever some folk would be in every week jumping up and down over the most ****ant crap under the sun . we did claims on cars up to 6 or 12 months out of warranty because the ppl had the right attitude ie dont come in jumping up and down saying how important i am.

In the early nineties I had a Subaru. Left rear tail light used to mist up in the rain. Not something that worried me however did mention it at each service.
Each time it was pronounced fixed only to mist up again. At the last service just before the warranty ran out mentioned it again.

Week later had a letter from Subaru Australia saying how sorry they were to hear that my car was not meeting their standards for reliability. In an attempt to make up for this departure from what they expected to provide to their customers they would keep the whole car under warranty until the 'problem' was fixed.

There was a reason why 98% of people who bought a Subaru kept replacing them with another Subaru. Not sure what is was though.

    Hey Colin.
I was more tha polite. Very pleasant and without any raised voice or any menace.I was Also firm and pointed out that they obviously cant trust their people that do the repairs if the 12month waranty is shortened to 3 months.
The Waranty manager (who doesn't even drive a car as it turns out)was more than adamant that it will not be fixed under warranty or with any good will. And this is also my 3rd Landrover and the second one brought from new.I even politely said at the end of the conversation that i couldn't thank her for her help as she wasn't helpfull at all.
    Just damn annoying.

Go back to the dealer & ask that a Goodwill request be submitted to Land Rover HQ.

I can't guarantee what they'll say in your case but it's worth a try.
