Thread: td5 electrical lost temp ,fuel,gauges no indicators etc

hi there guys [and gals ] i have a 2001 defender td5 130 hcpu , the other day the warning light for the fuel filter didnt light up when key turned on so i pulled the instrument cluster out to look for a blown globe to find out they are leds, reinstalled the instrument cluster back in , easy one grey plug and 2 small black ones on the warning lights easy then turned on key and found that i have no fuel gauge , no temp gauge , no indicators , and when started up the speedo reads the total milage and not the trip klms have checked the appropriate fuses , seem ok not blown , now i rang an authorised vdo service agent and they asked me if i had started the engine without the instuments connected or even turned the key whilst it was not connected [which i had done] they then told me it might have confused the computer in some way and to take it to a land rover dealer and get it hooked up to computer to check it out and reset it , has anybody else had these problems and how did you fix it or can you give me a few hints on where to look to fix it , the engine starts and can be driven with headlights , horn, heater fan ,etc all working just the thing i have mentioned arent regards to all great site you have here . steve

There are plenty of us with Nanocoms and other diagnostic gear willing to help out,find somebody on the list nearby and hit them up
