An end of an era has come.
Vehicles are made to be turned over every 3 to 5 years, not last decades. A whole world of young fearless borrowers await out there, not ageing conservative traditional Defer owners like most of us.
Perhaps look at it as now we all own a collector, and will be on club rego before you know it.

Not sure if it looks like a mini, the lated toadoto cruiser thing, or just like any other new styled car.

Meh. You're not their market anyway. The nouveau riche in China and India are.

You are more likely to see them as used imports.

The D3/D4 body would make a better looking Defender - then they could design a good looking Disco.

Agree - that most seems completely undeliverable for 10 or more years, and undesirable in most cases. Sonar? Surely that's an optional extra!

Only thing I disagree on. I think they hit the mark. Just you and I want them to aim for a different target entirely. It's a show car so every possible bell and whistle to attract media attention, and splashed over every Land Rover nut's screen plus a big percentage of the rest of the world.

Like a lot of showcars, the delivery will be somewhat less extreme than the concept. E.g. Concept:

    Delivery:

    1977 Series III Ex-Army
    1988 County V8

I think all you technophiles are missing the point of the defender. All the technological wizzardry in available in most new 4x4s. The defender catered for a small market who appreciate the KISS principle (or, as applied to me KISIS - keep it simple, I'm stupid). Without the defender that pretty much leaves the Landcruiser 79 wagon with the market to itself.

A hi tech defender will just be another four wheel drive.

I have jsut followed a Disco 3 for a while and it got me thinking this...

Bring back the Disco 2, square up the sides a bit and make it 90" 100" or 110" or 130"( probly 90", 110" and 130") and increase the range of interior options. Me and my honey run mostly with the rear seats folded down or removed, like it would be a three door hard top 110. There are only two of us but want a bit of comfort up front, the defender is a bit basic - which is OK for some, but we liked the Disco 2 interior. No, I was never going to hose it out, but then if a vynil option was availble some might choose that.

Then this new concept can come out and replace the Disco 4, which leaves the Rangie and Freelander in their class / price level and the new concept in middle - right were its aimed at.

I dont think that the Disco 4 will work at the moment as a utility car because of the rear upper and lower doors and the sloped sides and appears to have reduced ground clearence (some I have seen look OK, but most of them seem too low)

Also, the Defender HAS to be basic, but with option pacakages can be tailered, I dont want airbag suspension, but the next person might so make it an option, and simialr things

We know the running gear / chassis of the Disco 2 / Defender so that will be acceptable and we know it will work (and they have worked for many millions of miles and people) - if its not broken dont fix it.

Last up, how can they expect many military / NGO sales with that? it doesnt seem to be a platform with many options? e.g. tipper body, lift arm on teh back? ambulance body?

    Hay Ewe
