An interesting post. Reviewing everything that has been revealed about it, despite appearances, it does seem to be mechanically and structurally suitable as a replacement, although like most others I am not in love with its appearance. But as I think I said early in this thread - I don't understand the obsession of so many with appearance in a utility vehicle.

One point that I hope you made was the need for the new design to be sun friendly - windows must be as near vertical as possible, and preferably flat - current Wrangler shows what can be done. Almost all cars on the market have obviously been designed by people who live in cold climates or who have slavishly copied these styles.

I think that this post has been the first definite statement I have seen that it will not be named a Defender. Of course, "Defender" is a relatively new name, as you know, being introduced only so that the model name of "Landrover" could be transformed into a marque name with the introduction of the Discovery. It only represents the last twenty-three years of a sixty-four year history.

Like I said on another forum:

Looks like the illegitimate offspring of a mating frenzy between a Mini and a Freelander 2.........

To be completely honest, i don't mind it. I quite like the new fj cruiser as well. But i only like them as cars rather than a true offroader.

i reckon bring this one out as a sporty or up market defender and change the name and just slowly improve the defender, but i suppose they have freelanders and evoques, but i reckon that this will be popular in usa

I have heard from a guy who has been at LR Aus for a long time that the DC100 is not the replacement for the current Defender.

His suggestion was the DC100 will be a new model,as was evoque.

Makes sense as no 4 door or ute versions have appeared.

    A couple of thoughts:
    - Am I right in thinking that the "DC100" designation alludes to the wheelbase? If so, it is the same as the original Discos.
    - LR seem to be emphasising approach and departure angles, probably at the expense of loadspace (and ramp over?).

I mean in a way it is a pretty cool lookin machine but it's no defender anymore , very very disappointing , completely loses what it's allways been about . Trying to keep up with the Joneses I reckon but they should just keep doing what they do best and to hell with them , that's what people love about them all these yrs why change it.
I just pray they keep building on the old Defender , like in the pic I posted in another thread , I can't chuck it in here bc it's not on this puter , well not with out lots of bs anyway but even that ones a bit too flash I reckon , pretty cool though.
    Cheers
