Where can I get some Magnesium?
I need some for work. Any amount between 5g and 1kg would be OK. Any form (flatbar, round, etc), however it should be as pure as possible.
I tried specialty metals. They said they don't stock it but would see if they can get some in. So far, no joy...

I have found magnesium ribbon on ebay - 25g rolls for US$15.
However a local supplier would be good...?
(Sigma Aldrich - Lab chemicals supplier - has the same Mg ribbon as ebay - but for AU$80 - which probably ships from the USA as well)
Any air cooled VW crank case. VW T3 fan casings. They burn beautifully in a good campfire...

goto a camping store (kmart sometimes has them as well) you can buy a burning metal block that has a flint on the side of it, its listed as a fire starter

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Specialist chemical and laboratory suppliers will be able to get it. Rowe Scientific P/L in Wangara would be one such place. Would be several in Perth. Look in the Yellow Pages. Mag wheels are 90-95% magenesium if that is the level of purity you are after. Pick up a damaged one from a scrap metal dealer.

what about those fire steels most of us carry around in our camping gear......?
the ones where you scrape a few shavings off and then strike a spark to ignite them.....
Not many so called "mag" wheels contain any magnesium. The cast wheels on mass produced cars are aluminium. Usually only aftermarket wheels for high performance or race cars are a magnesium alloy.
