    Difference between 3.5 and 4.6lt V8

Hey guys the carby 3.5lt in my rover P6 rat rod is leaking and using oil to the point where I don't want to use it much, and was thinking of rebuilding with a stroker kit.

I woul love a little more performance than what it has, and have a spare borg warner auto, and will have a custom convertor done for it also.

Its a weekend, fun not everyday driver so fuel economy isn't a problem.

To be honest I would rather buy an engine that someone has done all the hard work and doesn't want anymore.

Found this for sale, and im wondering what difference/ fitment etc would be different to what I have now?

    http://my.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbay&gbh=1

What about 3.9lt? TRS in SA have them with warranty for around 2k.

I will be purchasing an edelbrock, and holley for it so intake isn't a problem...

    Thanks in advance

    Chad.

Hmmm, would love to see that p6

Yes a 4.6 is a straight fit, thought about the same with my 3500s, but it would very quickly eat the 4 spd manual

I have a 4.4L to drop into my P6 and will be putting a 5 speed behind it. That reminds me, must keep looking for a manual pedal box.

Will post some pics of it soon, not quite finished yet...

So that engine on ebay I sent the link, what is the Leyland Terrier Block?

Would it be a good buy at $2500?

After reading the posts in the Tech section about the strokers, and the slipped liners, I would rather just buy something already the larger size...

Would the Edelbrock Intake, and carby fit straight up? And the exhaust?

Sorry to be a pain, just Don't want to spend the cash, to find lots more hassles.

If anyone could post any probs, the could see me having, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks again...

It goes with my other themed rovers, the Drag Car, and the Hot/Rat rod Stage one, I already have, painted it green, cut about 2.5inches out of the rear springs, whitewalls, old Hillborne type scoop, took the little 4.5 month old to Sydney on the weekend, and loved the drive up and back, was fun, except for the oil it dropped everywhere.

The 4.4 Terrier is simply a low comp version of the P76 engine, block and crank are identical. It is the same bore as a 3.5 with a long stroke crank and taller block. There is a specific 4 barrel manifold to fit from willpower (Max Wedge Performance). For $2500 it would be a great engine so long as you don't cane it too hard. They are getting very hard to get main bearings for as ACL no longer makes them. Also the flywheel end is different to the 3.5, you will need to machine up the 3.5 bits to suit. Auto drive plates for the 4.4 are very poor quality and very hard to source. I am currently looking at adapting a 3.5 D1 ring gear to a 4.4 by some suitable machining, to fit a TH700 conversion. Shouldn't be too hard I hope.

The 4.6 has a bigger bore and shorter stroke than the 4.4 so revs a bit better, and has a stronger bottom end. If you had lots of $$$ a top hat linered 4.6 would be my choice as the block is a direct fit to a 3.5 engined vehicle.

Justin. You would be worried about eating your 4 speed. Chad wants to run a Borg Warner auto. These Autos only just do the job in a 4.2 Falcon which probably weighs about 600plus kgs less than a RR which is going to have a 4.6V8!

    Dave.
