Anyway, as with the existing laws if your 4WD is set up properly you should have nothing to fear... Most fuzz will not be trained or skilled enough to measure a vehicle properly and determine who is over the line... As is the case today.
We should all be more worried about the long term effects the carbon tax is going to have on our (generally) gas guzzling vehicles. We wont be able to afford the fuel and tax bills they are gonna be making us pay in the near future.
Why aren't 4WDA onto that? Cause they can't make any $'s out of it. They just continue to promote "rip it up" and "bigger is better" because it fits their market (and marketing) and sells mag's.
Good luck to you and them, you both make me smile!

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Back when i lived in suburbia and my LandRover was used daily for commuting, I always carried a copy of the Australian design rules, downloaded from the internet, and a LandRover optional equipment manual in order to assist the police in determining if my vehicle was legally modified.
My favorite line when they queried the 36'' tyres was,'' You think these are big? just have a look at what LandRover think is acceptible!'' Then I would pull out an advertising poster of the Roadless Traction Forest Rover with
10.00x28'' tractor tyres measuring some 48'' in diameter. And 13.50 X 28''(55'') were an option on those!

"In a Landrover the other vehicle is your crumple zone."
For spelling call Rogets, for mechanicing call me.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
You are kidding right about most police being trained and competent?
Most police I have dealt with conducting vehicle inspections have limited mechanical knowledge if any at all. Have not had a canary for a long time, but I shall say that the ones I did get were from police who had no idea what they were talking about. Have talked may way out of a few more including Land Rovers, because I knew what I was talking about with mods and ride height. Only takes a smart arse copper and you get a canary any way, regardless. One example is I was told the Defender was too high, at the time had standard height. I was polite and just said to the officer ok that is fine, so you can tell me what the exact ride height for a Defender is? He could not.
Then there was the time I got a canary for a Holley Carby (well for starters a Holley is not illegal), but it was a standard 2 barrel Rochester on a 253.
Personally apart from anything totally unsafe and officer issuing unroadworthy tickets should be a mechanic or have mechanical background.
What irks me even if they are blatantly wrong you still pay for the inspection and have to present the vehicle, usually during work time.

Nah Craig, you read me wrong. We are saying the same thing here, they are not good at it. So most smart/clever people can talk their way through/out of a fuzz issued "canary".
Thanks Pat & Wagoo, I really like the idea of keeping supporting documentation in the car especially if the vehicle looks close to the limit. When it all hits VIC (as no doubt it will due to the common sense nature of the entire situation) I will have to print the rules and go check out e-bay for some old rangie books!!!

You do realise that the RTA mermaids in NSW are not mechanics either. In fact if you are a mechanic and apply to a job as a mermaid you are at a disadvantage to other applicants with no mechanical knowledge. This is because the RTA would rather have a blank sheet to write on and train in RTA way of the world, rather than having someone who is cognisant of the world around them that they have to unlearn before the RTA can be imprinted on their genes.
The RTA works off vehicle standards books.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
In DTP38s post he wrote that most ''Fuzz Will NOT'' be trained.
But anyway. I don't know the rules in the West but in Victoria, when I disagreed with a policemans assessment about the legality of my modifications, I insisted that a qualified member of the force be sent out to where I was pulled over to argue the points of contention. I had to wait about 1 hour before the officer turned up and he didn't fault my argument, but Cops being Cops he did ping me on a scratched windscreen, faded park and indicator lenses and the old cheese cutter Army bull bar.So you can never really win against authority.
Wagoo.
I had a cop pull me over in our totally show room stock disco and have a winge about it,he went to the trouble of walking all around it and even checked the tyre placard and my miss's gave him a mouth full after 20mins so he gave us a ticket for one and only problem he found which was a crack at the bottom of the windscreen from a stone strike, all one inch of it.I will have the rules for lighting in the glove box as I'm fitting a light bar over the windscreen on my puma which will no doubt get noticed.
