I have just acquired a new Defender 110 and I have a dumb question.
How do I get my radio aerial up?
*Insert bad jokes here*
I have scoured the manual and found nothing to explain how the aerial functions. I have searched the web and also found nothing other than to say that it may be powered by the radio.
Is the aerial motorised or manual? Is there a key or similar for me to 'unlock' the aerial.
Please help

If in doubt - read the handbook![]()

Manual operation on the 2010 Defender.
Mine pulls up with my fingers.
Can look at it more closely tonight, if nobody else chimes in before then.
The antenna on my SVX is manual. Have to pull it up by hand. Annoying as I keep forgetting to pull it up again and often fond myself hopping out at traffic lights to extend it.
I'd like to exchange it for a whip antenna that I can just leave up.

Whip aerial, excellent idea! Whip antenna's I've used don't have the same range though. It was a while back, have they improved?
I'm going to hate having to remember to push the telescope aerial in every time I go bush, only to lift back-up when the cricket is on.
To be honest, I can see the aerial snapping at some point.
