Line the back of your car with conveyor belt, it does the same thing and can be a 20th of the price.
they seem damned expensive for what they are... The Gratemates look like they're more adaptable... the advantage of the MaxTrax seems to be in the profile design..rather than the 'walkway' grating. Dolium also have sand track for $75 (ea) which is a simple sawtooth design 1400mm long and 3kg ea... "tread your own path" as the wise man says
milk crates, shade cloth with bits of PVC pipe threaded into it door mats sandbags, all cheaper than the maxtrax...

The Maxtrax work great. I have had a set for 3 years.
Anyone that tells you conveyor belting works as good is full of ****. Get water on conveyor belt and all you will do is spin. I have had and used both. Coveyor belting can be real heavy too.
The Maxtrax win hands down.
The downside is cost at around $300 a pair.
This is where other alternatives win out, but each to their own.

depends, if you peel it apart along its lenght and lay it fabric side up it works well when its wet...
The real trick (and this applies to the trax as well) is to use it before you get stuck so badly it cant work for you.

Cost is not an issue. I am prepared to spend $300. I have read mixed reports on other options like carpet, converor belts etc.
I like the idea of MaxTrax as they are light and easy to handle so I was looking for anyone who has them or used them.
CraigE you have answered my question and Dave(BlKnight) I have read your thread using the milk crates(it came up in a google search of sand ladders) and I reckon that it is probably the next best thing to Maxtrax. I just could not be bothered with all the work and hassle involved let alone the legal ramifications with milk crates.
Thanks everyone for your input and if anyone else has used/owns Maxtrax please post
Dave.
IVe used the max tracks and the waffle board bridging ladders...
my money is on the waffle board bridging ladders with the only place Ive found the max trax to be better than the waffle boards is in slippery mud, the kind of stuff you cant stand up on, like wet clay.
the waffle boards also have less "ridges" on them so are more feet friendly when you use them as shower plates, entry mats on the tent, seats, beds or even as the basis for a table.
