    loss of drive rear

    Hi Guys
I am out at Narbethon and have lossed drive to rear wheels. Any clues I have a disco 2 2003 2.5tdi. Got drive to front wheels with diff lock on or off. Rear drive only happens when handbrake engaged. Anybody have any clues. Will tow vevicle home.
    cheers Lock

if it is a d2 it will be Td5.

    Loss of drive to rear:

    broken shaft inside axle tube
    broken rubber doughnut/rear axle assembly
stripped splines somewhere in the drive line
    broken pinion or crown wheel
    broken diff centre (planetary gears)
stripped splines in transfer case at the rear shaft output flange.

There are too many possibilities without narrowing it down with a few more symptoms.

Can you get under the vehicle?
Can you lock the centre diff, are you getting drive to the raear drive shaft?
Is the drive shaft to the rear diff still connected?

Jack one of the front wheels up unluck your centre diff and turn the front wheel that is in the air. Is the front drive shaft turning? It should if you still have drive to the front. Is the rear drive shaft turning? If not the centre diff is the area of you problem.

sounds like your problem is in the rear axle assembly.

get it home and start taking it apart or take it to workshop to get it fixed.
