Thread: V8 Supercars - whats happening to Ford?

Well I haven’t watched a Bathurst race for about 10 years but I sat down to watch it yesterday as I had some visitor over and we were going to make a bit of a day of it.

After half an hour or so we got so feed up with the coverage we went of sightseeing instead.

My god, they actually interrupted the adverts occasionally to show some of the racing.

What a total disgrace and waste of time that was.

I still don’t know who won the race and nor do I care.

Lets face it, there were no landies in the race so whats the point of it!

Landies going around Bathurst - either it'd need to be less than 161 laps, or a 24 hour event ! And I think some of the corners are too tight for a 130 !

I did 2 laps up there in Casper a couple of years ago and with the 60kmh speed limit and on coming traffic it made for a rather slow lap.

I think if it were a 24hour event, a Landy may possibly be able to do the 161 laps but only just.....after a few break downs and a chat or 2, a bottle of port for the pit crew between stops.

I think it would be more entertaining to do it as an economy run, and see who could get the furthest on a full tank on the least amount of stops for repairs.

I doubt it would attract many sponsors or TV audience, especially if there was no advertising to break up the coverage.

I almost watched the replay--i fell asleep a few times so it doesnt make sence---i also couldnt workout who to support--but the adds on the cars and track look good.

maybe the first one home with least fuel and an engine swap in the pits for the last lap.

I did the 95 mobil reliability trial in a very privateer P76-finishing 16th outrite and second historic class or the mum a dads class..

at the end of the event the ford team had the benifit of Ian and Val Swan pointing out how good the product was-We have these people to thank for Kickstarting the ford brand and making the falcon ute what it should have been.the longreach ect was so far ahead it quality to previous falcons.

I think we need some more production competions[i dont like porche againts proton] to get the aftermarket industry in a position to get rid of the stupid complience issues with road vehicles.

And strip down "outed" motor then reassemble to running condition during the race.

Reminded me of my "Tech Studies" exam back in the day. We had 1 hour to completely strip a small engine, and then reassemble again. Only the ones that started again afterwards passed.

I was only running it a couple of times a year in club events so I just stripped it in the end and sold off the parts.

With the nanny state world we live in these days it will never be again that we will see production cars running like they did in those days.

Hopefully they will never run like that. Crashes can be absolutely sickening, and you see enough of them on the track. If a car doesn't have the proper safety equipment then in my opinion it shouldn't be on the track. Cages and harnesses are there for a very good reason.

There was an aerial photo in one of the weekends papers comparing the mid eighties (I think) crowds to now across the top from Reid Park and McPhillamy to Forests Elbow.

It appeared to be a lot less people packing the fences in the modern shot.

They were probably sober and down the bottom!

The racing for me was much better when there was many makes of cars with only safety items added. I doubt that will ever happen again though.
I would like to see proper Commodores and Falcons we can buy compete with other cars like BMW,s Mercs, Skylines etc.

Its production car racing - they at least used to support every V8 round.

The funniest and wildest class I ever saw racing was the Gemini's. They were like HQ holdens except twice as out of control! I still recall in wonder how a Gemini spun out half way down the straight!

I remember gemini racing.
locally here they had an hyundia excel racing class with road and rally.like buy and race deal very popular-not advertised to keep down the costs.

I remember porche 944-TR7 but at least the RX7 went well.
