Thread: Foxwing awning guy ropes???

My fox wing never had ropes like that but i have one of the older ones, mine just have loops and never had a problem, well except for the time the wind caught it when i was setting it up and broke off 2 of the pivots...

Interesting.

Im thinking they maybe changed the design to cater for idiots that can't tie knots! After my fears about them were confirmed at the LRO expo (Sat night winds), Im not using them again. Im gonna stick to a simple rope with a knot in each end!

I have a foxwing but have no idea what you're on about No offence intended ..... but my guy ropes work fine.

I've never had a close look at a Foxwing (didn't know they flew ) Awning so don't know exactly what the problem is but I've been using large 'rubber bands' cut from the cross section of old inner tubes. They work well in windy conditions as they have a fair amount of give but then return to normal when the wind abates.
I splice an eye into the end of the guy rope, then simply loop the band through the eye as a permanent tensioner - band then loops over top of tent/tarp pole and that's it.

No photos but you will be able to have a look next weekend if you wish.

Righto, I've gone and got my foxwing ropes and reread your first post....

A loop to go over the spike at the top of the pole ... I always do a double turn around the spike (as pictured) so the rope hangs on better in wind and so it can't pull down over the pole.
The black plastic thingy clips back onto the rope and slides up and down the rope for adjustment the bottom loop formed is pegged to the ground.

Same as my ropes, i know they changed the design of cover some time after i got mine and i think they also changed the design of the backing peice and nuckles slightly, but i cant see what they would have changed the ropes. But that being said, i think the black lugs they use for tensioning could be better, i have used my other ropes with springs and the slide type tensioner when i have had it set up in heavy winds.

Thanks Stevo, thats the same black thing ive got.

The guy at Oztent told me that it (the black plastic thingy) was supposed to fix to the top of the pole and NOT act as a tensioner like you have it, an indeed how i thought it should be.

That said i have tried it as a tensioner and thought it was pretty rubbish performing that task also!

Good tip re double loop around the pole. Ta.

I think i'll have another play next weekend with "the tensioner"!

I've just noticed in my photo that I've got it clipped onto the rope wrong.(So I've changed the photo) The tensioner works much better if that clip is flipped 180° ... ie the knot is inside the loop formed ... as now shown.
